I was never able to find out who coined this slogan which is often cited in black essays and discussions on black boards. Does somebody here know who came up with it?

What are you thoughts when you hear it?
What's the meaning of this slogan in your opinion/interpretation?
    Do you agree/disagree?

Of course it's a state of mind.
In the end, we are all human and race has so little to do with us as living beings.

HOWEVER, we place race on the forefront of society and culture so much to the point that it becomes what we use to define how we see others and ourselves. How we treat each other....

The true importance of race is only based in the relevance we give it. Not as individuals but as a society.

Race is used by us to control us.....

Black is a state of mind.
Black people come in many colors but most still identify themselves as black.
I'm sure many white people fall into this as well

Even some of the people on the interracial site for black men and white women will fall into this as well.

In an attempt to add something to this thread, Silver, I don't know where that saying came from.
    I'm sure someone here knows.

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.' - Charles R. Swindoll

I think all of those have been used already by a few of our popular posters.
