having a little conversation on my fb page regarding breastfeeding in public.

is it acceptable? should women be able to breastfeed in public or should it be done behind doors in private?

    opinions, thoughts, comments

It's a non-issue for me. I remember being at the beach a few years ago and seeing a woman with a outstanding body breastfeeding her son right there on the sand.

I looked longer than I should've but it was fine and indicate of the sublime energy that runs through all things natural and beautiful.

I dont see a problem with it at all! As long as you cover the boob up, what is the big deal? I dont get it.

I don't have a problem with it as long the woman covers herself while she does it. I really don't want to be staring at some woman's tits when I'm out and about...and that goes for those women in the excessively low cut tops too.

I believe it should be done in a desiginated area like a bathroom or if that's ok then I should be allowed to pee where I want as long as the waste isn't harmful to others around me.

    Poor analogy.

I know you Jamaicans struggle with the idea of civilized behavior :), but the elimination of body waste and nourishing a baby with breast milk are not in the same category.

I have no issue with public breastfeeding as long as the boob is covered. I don't understand why folks get so upset about it.

Why not? The problem with peeing in public isn't the fact that you're eliminating bodily waste. There's a reason why its considered an of sexual exposure under the law its another example of societal shaming of the body and to be fair in many if not most of those incidents where it's reported its a woman reporting a man. So if we as a society deem the exposure of male genitalia as offensive and crude why is the exposure of female breasts seen the same way?
Frankly I don't care one way or the other but sometimes I do like to introduce another argument to the discussion pretty boy. Btw thanks for responding I know its tough pulling yourself away from that mirror when you're touching up your mascara fam lol:cool:

It really is a poor comparison.

I think most people that condone breastfeeding in public say cover the boob up, so its really not a fair comparison. Slinging your boob out without covering it - is indecent exposure just as slinging your penis out.

Even if you covered up your penis, people would see the stream, and it smells and is unsanitary. Nobody sees the milk exchange and milk is not unsanitary, unless its been sitting out for a while. If you pee in public, you leave the pee behind, you dont leave breast milk behind.

Like I said in my argument that would make sense if the punishment for doing so was improper waste removal but its not. It's considered a lude sexual act because you are exposing sexual organs so by that logic why isn't breast feeding considered the same thing?

    Seriously. This argument is so..invalid.

Women should practice a certain amount of decorum when nursing, but that's just common sense. Just because someone may be comfortable with nudity doesn't mean they have the right to force it on to people who aren't.
And most importantly: nursing ISN'T a sexual act. It is nourishment to a baby. Men (and women for that matter) who can't seperate the two are either sick in the head or hung up over all things sexual. Of course our uptight, Puritan, backassward society will continually miss this.

I once had a (rather large and fugy) business type man ask me to please excuse myself to the bathroom to nurse my newborn. I was covered completely, you couldn't see anything. I asked him if he eats his meals regularly in dirty public restrooms. Of course he said no because who does that? I then told him that I wouldnt feed my newborn there either. He then told me it is offensive to see nursing mothers in public to which I told him that maybe nursing mothers were offended to see his fat ass eat in public too.

So basically we should all just shut up and let you do what you want cause you said so lol

    Hell yes! :D

Not really. I'm just saying I think it's sorta silly for (men) people to make such a big deal over such a small thing. Bottle feeding is basically the same damn thing with nipples and everything and fat men in business suits don't trip over that.

Obviously I'm biased though. I breast feed all three of my children and fuck those fuckers who can't deal with it. I see people do socially unacceptable things in public all the time. The ones to complain about a baby at a breast don't say jack. But because my kid is latched on to me they can't ask me to feed her in the bathroom.

Sorry...but to hell with all of that noise.

Really think it should be done in private personally although I have to lol at men who think women should do it in the bathroom. If I did notice a woman breastfeeding in public I probably just wouldn't look. Honestly not interested in seeing it.

thing is with breastfeeding, you can't always do it in private. i used to breastfeed my daughter every 2 hours for an hour. i't pretty hard to get out and about with those timeframes. she was also a child that would take breast only. never took to a bottle (nor a dummy) and would only ever take a breast. if she was hungry, she was hungry and she was going to get fed

Thank you. We have a smile at a nursing mother campaign here.

I don't personally believe that the issues surrounding breast feeding come from anything other than old school ignorance. For a long while (I forget the dates) doctors and medical professionals actually encouraged women not to nurse. It was seen as less classy (look at all the 3rd country women with saggy breast...you wanna look like that in two years when this bundle of joy has drained the life outta your boobs?) and also there was such a push for unnatural things.
Formula feeding is more expensive and messy and time consuming. There are so little positives to it.

But, ultimately, it is a woman's choice. If she wants to nurse she should nurse..without judgement.
And if she wants to bottle feed, then bottle feed. Without judgement.
The main problem doesn't come from the act itself because it is neither good nor bad (wholly..that is) but from the forced perception of someone not agreeing with the act and then vomiting that all over the other person.

Excellent posts, Aliona. :smt023 I feel the same way about it. Some people freak out about about it like it's some obscene thing when it's actually something beautiful & natural.

Exactly. I breastfed my son, & he was the same way when it came to taking breast only. When he was hungry I fed him regardless of where I was at the time.

This I can totally understand. And it's really a sad statement to how messed up and repressed we are as a country. We can't give our kids birth control or see a baby latched-on. But we can let our kids (true story) watch nasty hentai on x-boxes.

It makes no sense to me and I've been an american all my life.
