General Powell, please consider leaving the Republican Party. What we need General if you decide to accept is a new political movement away from both the Socialist Democrats and the so-called conservative Republicans. There are millions of us out here who fall in the middle as moderates and would love if someone like you can spark a revolution in the establishment of a third way, a third political party. General, if you make it reality I will follow you. I'm sure there are millions who feel the same way. You are being savaged by the hard right. Have no fear. What this country needs is true leadership. What we have instead is a bunch of pansies who lack the toughness as you displayed in your years of military leadership. General Powell this country is in great danger from people who have no clue what true leadership is about at all. General, please consider. Who knows General, after President Obama maybe, just maybe you might want to re-consider and run for president.

Colin Powell is 72, I don't think he is going to run. He should have run in '96.

Agreed. He would have given Clinton a run for his money, I'm sure....

His best quote was that in order for the republican party to re-emerge, they have to take a hard look at themselves and ask what kind of party are we?

socialist democrats? hee-hee ... from Carter forward, the m.o. has generally been to be centrists and accomodationists above all else.. Clinton dropped the ball on health-care reform (among other things) despite his other achievements.. the progressive left gets made fun of, then 99% of Dems voted for the Iraq war.. joe Lieberman ("I'm a democrat until i lost the democratic primary in my state so i'm an Independent now") jumps ship to campaign for McCain.. then when stuff comes out about torture, nancy Pelosi gets amnesia or claims she was lied to.. whoops..

it's totally up to the good General whether he sticks with the ship he's on.. already Mike "whazzup" Steele has publicly declared that 'moderates' are welcome but they better not hope to change anything from the neocon status quo.. :prayer:

One of the rare occasions I find myself eye-to-eye with you.

Nonetheless, Powell's future in politics is history. Not that he had one to start with. I honestly believe in retrospect that he could have become the 1st African-American president, but it was not to be. He would be much better served retiring peacefully and doing his thing, rather than trying to pull a McNamara i.e. restoring a once-eminent legacy.

P.S. That whole Democrat-Socialist thing is baloney. The Republicans can't be serious about getting back in power if the best they can do is forcing the opposition (majority) party to change their name.
