From the article Some say that color blind casting actually hurts because it often ignores real problems that interracial couples often face and pretending that they don't exist makes people think they don't in fact exist. I see Carmen's point (quoted below), but on the other hand I like to see happy interracial couples portrayed (rather than tragic ones) and would like to see more: Where is the medium? You know, whenever I read this article, my mind wanders and goes, "blah-blah-blah", BECAUSE, addressing and re-addressing the racial issues in society, over and over, and over and over AGAIN in shows like Law and Order, The Practice, Boston Public, and in EVERY single Spike Lee and John Singleton movie, don't do much good either, in fact, these programs/films only incite people even further, because some people have a comfort zone/routine in their mindset that they WILL ALWAYS stick to, NO MATTER WHAT.
The only real problem I have with THAT show is the fact that if the white people (male and female)in it can't be in a successful relationship, then they will NEVER date 'outside of their race' instead.
Just as a side note on Grey's Anatomy, the cast was on Oprah a few months ago. Isiah Washington was telling the story of when they were casting, he tried out for the role of Dr. Derek Shepherd (McDreamy) which he obviously did not get. He mentioned that Ellen Pompeo told him that she was glad that he did not get that role and was confused by her saying that....That is until he saw her boyfriend (who is black) and he said "ooooh!" (as in NOW I get it) I suppose that was her way of saying that she is into black men Here is a funny video of them together http://youtube.com/watch?v=1tQPZD4bMRk&search=Ellen Pompeo
