Just when I thought they couldn't be any nuttier, I read that conservatives won't even view a movie if the actor is too liberal. New Poll Shows Republicans Hate Sean Penn, Democrats Hate Mel Gibson Even in today's partisan political climate, you'd think their would be some activities -- like going to the movie theater -- that would transcend party lines. Well, not according to a recent study done by The Hollywood Reporter. In a poll featuring both liberal and conservative voters, 35 percent of Republicans (and 45 percent of tea party members) consider an actor's political position when seeing a film as opposed to 20 percent of Democrats. The study also pinpoints the percentage of people who purposely avoid an actor's movie due to their political preferences. I am a conservative, and I couldn't care less what an actor's political affiliation is. I choose movies based on whether I think the content will be good or not and if I like the actor (his/her acting skills)
Gee, here I've been all this time judging films and actors on artistic/entertainment grounds. I admit I wouldn't look out my window to see Mel Gibson naked in my back yard, but I felt that way long before he lost his mind publicly or did that homosexual-erotic slash film about Jesus.
