So what if you wouldn't - others would and do. Besides, offending a religion is purely subjective. An Atheist might not see an offense, your or my way. Offending someone isn't illegal. As Charlie Hebdo once said, "I live under French Law, not Sharia law"

Lol at so what. This is simply a discussion. Religion itself is subjective, but I choose to respect them all. Don't remember saying that I expected others to do the same. If pissing people off for no reason is how others decide to live then they are welcome to have at. I clearly said that was on them or let me be even more clear: ITS THIER BUSINESS. How's that? No one here is justifying violence, so there is no debate in the direction that you are taking it.

My "so what" was simply that, not anything other than...therefore I assumed it was always a discussion, and not a debate.

" If pissing people off for no reason is how others decide to live then they are welcome to have at."

And that's the crux of it, isn't it. But some won't let them. Vivre et laisser.

Those cartoonists paid the ultimate price for freedom of speech. The newspaper picked on everyone. The Muslims who are offended think they should get a pass from their criticism. No one should be killed for free expression. Also, those jihadists killed a custodian meaning they don't care who they kill cartoonist or custodian.

I answered with the next post. People self censor themselves every day. I guarantee that newspaper made a decision to not publish everything that came to them, controversial or not. They should be able to make a decision that their lives are more important than a comic and that there is more than one way to get your objective done.

Also, I doubt they won any of that. People are going to continue doing what they do just like I continued doing what I do.
If flying a plane into a building wasn't enough for me to agree to placing so much safety crap in airports than I doubt this will be enough for them.

I thought one of the goals of higher education was to prepare yourself for a highly diverse world where there are people of many different backgrounds. It does help to be able to function in a business environment without pissing people off.

I don't think you understand what Charlie Hebdo is - it's a satirical paper, heavy on the cartoons. They have been in print since the 1960's. They are an extreme Left paper and often mocked the Right. It's like telling Jon Stewart to shut up. Or shooting up The Onion's office. Or telling South Park to cease filming...least they "piss people off".

Defiant Charlie Hebdo's first cover since massacre depicts weeping Prophet Muhammad holding Je Suis Charlie sign as authors aim to sell 3 MILLION copies

Cover depicts the central figure of Islam weeping and holding a placard

Text declares 'all is forgiven' and likens figure to protesters worldwide

Cartoonist, Luz, is the same man who drew controversial cover in 2011
Magazine's lawyer previously said it would 'of course' depict the Prophet.

Normally they only print 60,000 copies ...16 pages...you are correct that millions will go to print of this 8 page addition. I know Soulthinker was looking to purchase...this may be distributed to several countries outside of France.

Who would pick this up? Independent bookstore?
