True my brother. Perhaps that is what will be needed in the future. The unexpected events to come as a result of misguided policies and greed from the few will force us to take the measures necessary to keep our freedom. We cannot allow ourselves to be complacent and literally be slaves to others in different forms of bondage now and in the future.

The racist elements that made up the old Democrat party left the party and became Republicans. The progressive elements of the old Republican party in turn became Democrats leading to the current face of both the Rebublican & Democratic Parties that we more or less have today. What big reforming change happened? It's the same shit, just different party affiliations.

Also, how does one fight corruption by becoming corrupt themselves?

This story is bad, but it's small potatoes.

It's not a coincidence that the majority of elected officials who enter Congress with less than $200,000-300,000 net worth, end up being worth millions if they're in office for more than 10 years.

Tell me how a lawmaker, a guy or woman who debates, sees constituents and votes on bills all day, becomes a MILLIONAIRE????

There's an limited amount of corruption the system can stand, but if it reaches a tipping point the system crashes.

Politicians forget who they're really accountable to, and if the country falls to a depression level of unemployment and the economy implodes, it isn't the rich people who are going to riot in the streets and start looting grocery stores.

If we have another mortgage derivative stock market collapse like we had in 2008 and there's no federal bailout, that would be enough of a shock to reboot the system.

I'm not an alarmist, but you know shit is bad when NOT ONE Wall Street executive directly linked to the recent stock market collapse and derivative securities scam was prosecuted by DOJ and sent to prison.

Even during the Great Depression, there were financiers who went to prison.

When a multi billion dollar investment bank can knowingly sell junk stocks to investors and make side bets the stocks will fail, still get rich on the back end and get bailed out by Uncle Sam on the front end, things are really getting out of control.

I still believe most Americans believe in rules and fair play. But too many once they get to Washington D.C. find out they have price and are willing to be bought to go along with the status quo.

You have to take seriously guys like Grover Norquist who wanna shrink the federal government down to the size where it can drowned in a bathtub.

EIther we're all in this together, or we all go it alone. And if it's every man for himself fuck the 'social contract', well let's just say we all need to brush up the Mad Max trilogy.

Wanna read about a major scandal that's never going to be reported fully in the media??

Google 'London whale', 'Jamie Dimon' and 'JP Morgan'.

JP Morgan CEO Jamie Dimon needs to be in prison yesterday.

At this point the only hope we have is a natural disaster that will destroy everything and make us reset back to zero. We need a plague that'll make AIDS look like the sniffles that's airborne as well as hurricanes and earthquakes that would make the bible blush. Its absolutely the only way even the smallest fraction of anything will get done. We are too greedy and selfish as a people on this planet. The shit that we allow and pretend not to see is worst than anything the "devil" could dream of. So if humanity is to have even an iota of hope that's what has to happen. Either that or mass spontaneous evolution where we don't need food shelter and water anymore.
The days of banning together and revolutions are dead, they no longer exists. Those willing to fight are too old and those with something to fight for are complete pussies afraid of their own shadow willing to sell their children into slavery for an ipad and a pair of nice shoes. By the time we get the will to fight it will be far too late. They'll have a gun to everyone's head far out of reach where no one can touch them. Its over folks. Say your prayers and say good night.

What we need are better oversight with people who literally have nothing to lose so they can't be bought.

Officials who work in federal regulatory agencies and our congressman know what's happening, they chose not to act on it to fix the problem.

You let a few major investment banks fail, put a couple CEOs in prison for 20 years and seize all their assets and the system would reboot on its own.

If Obama was really courageous, he would have said I don't care how many hookers Elliot Spitzer fucked, he's my new head of the SEC. Spitzer is one of those cats who was born a millionaire and believes he's one of the few that can change the culture of corruption in the global financial services industry.
When the people you're investigating want you dead, you're probably the right guy for the job.

Elliot Spitzer. Elliot Ness. Coincidence?? I think not.

So basically the masses must hope for an altruistic rich person to fix everything? Pigs will fly out of my ass first sir. The system is rigged and it would literally take a martyr to change it and people already know how that will go ala Kennedy. I truly hope I'm wrong but when I see the youth the ones most affected by this lazily walking around going further into debt to buy gadgets while good jobs go across see lets me know its over. The youth have always been the catalyst for change in the pass and when they're all complacent we know its a wrap.

AB dont forget a President who says our Banks are too big to fail. (even if they were/are corrupt.)

Just yesterday and today, JP Morgans former CEO was on the Senate hot seat for lying to investors to the tune of $6 billion.

Why doesn't the DOJ have the balls to go after them? Because they're in bed together. Can you imagine all the secrets and greased palms and promises made.

Bill Clinton and Hillary are worth around 100 Million. He used to command nearly 100 thousand per speaking engagement and some book deals not to mention eight uears as president where your salary is totally banked since you all your needs are met. Also I think she had a book deal. I think Chelsea is a millionaire in her own right.

I would say the biggest reform was when many blacks left the Republican Party and went to the Democratic Party because of FDR. Even Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his father left the Republican Party in the 1950's and were instrumental in the revolution that would be the Civil Rights Movement. The real reform was forcing the white liberals in the party through coalitions of religious and social organizations like the women's movement, and anti-war zealots of the time to enact social reforms in voting rights, education reforms and political changes toward fair elections of blacks which brought about a powerful rise in the number of black elected officials across the country from mayoral offices to even a state senator in the 1960's and 70's.

As far as being corrupt. Let's face it. It's in the human nature to be corrupt. However, history is replete with those who resisted it and went on to make great changes for the better of the human condition. Once they got their foot in the door.

Keys words right there. The system itself per say isn't the problem. It's the people we currently choose to put in power to oversee it. They've made it about benefiting themselves rather than the people who put them in power. Get in the door by not being corrupt and bring about change that way. Never become corrupt in order to bring about change in that manner. If you do, you'll succeed in bringing change, but never for the better.

    Exceptional lecture...

We the People, and the Republic we must reclaim

There is a corruption at the heart of American politics, caused by the dependence of Congressional candidates on funding from the tiniest percentage of citizens. That's the argument at the core of this blistering talk by legal scholar Lawrence Lessig.
With rapid-fire visuals, he shows how the funding process weakens the Republic in the most fundamental way, and issues a rallying bipartisan cry that will resonate with many in the U.S. and beyond.

BT05,the Kings left the party months after Kennedy bailed Martin King out of jail in 1960. Nixon had a chance but didn't. With the emergence of Voter ID,restrictions on Black rights as well as dissing Obama the Republicans are still the people supported by former Southern conservative Democrats and other right-wingers.
