WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Pakistan's government has abdicated to the Taliban in agreeing to impose Islamic law in the Swat valley and the country now poses a "mortal threat" to the world, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Wednesday.

It might not be long until we have to sacrifice our soldiers' lives and our taxpayer dollars in another nation. Get ready for more anti-American hatred, folks :smt009

I think the people of the united states should open their eyes and stop listening to everything they have been told.

I don't see a problem with Pakistan being an Islamic state. In many instances
the US government has take wrong international political decisions. I wonder why people do not learn from history.

Are they a threat to the world ? Or to the Israeli supporters ?

The people who say that are neocons. They are delusional and think their way is the only way. It's unfortunate that these neocons are in our government and creating more anti-Americanism in the world

I was watching a representative of the Pakistani gov. on "The Situation Room" this afternoon and he stated what I thought.(I'm prior military, US Army) He felt like the government is stable enough to fend off any type of incursion from the Taliban. Unlike in the past where there was an unstable government and corruption abound.

No, the issue is twofold. One, the governments in the middle east must work with ours to stamp out these terrorist camps and ultimately create a positive, democratic environment whereby the young middle eastern kids don't get recruited like in gang initiations. That's the only way that "success" and "winning the war" will have a real meaning. Secondly, like in Iraq, we must work to help them build up their military and national police forces in order for them to properly protect and defend themselves from any and all threats to their government and their way of life. These things will take time, but can be done day by day over the next few years with some good sound decision making.

The Taliban made themselves an enemy of the United States when they chose to align with al-Qaida. Destroying them is not an issue for me, especially if it prevents them from assuming power over a nuclear state.

YOU know what? I'm tired of anti-american hatred!!! I've had no idea of their reasoning why they don't like us, but I remember my former history teacher back in high school days, she told me that they feels that we're invade their world nor business.

FOR your information, Osama Bin Laden starts all of this war with us many of years ago, that I'm tired of this shit, do you understand what am I saying here?? Since of September 11th, they've crossed the line after murdering nearly 3,000 people who died in the world trade center! They're trying to having us destroyed in many pieces, still we're much stronger than their swollen hatred, world has much changed since that very dark days in our lives that enters our minds that cannot be erased very easily!!

Taliban, Al-qaida are spreading like cancer, it WILL be very, very impossible to have them removed from the face of earth. It will take years, years, years to get them out of our lives for good. Sad, we may never see peace if we continue goes war with them, it has got to stop!!

Now my stomach is sick after I heard this news. We have to do something about this! We needed to find the sense of peace in the order to getting along for love of god! I can not forgive Osama for what he has done to murdering our brothers and sisters on eleventh days of September 2001!

With Barack Obama being our president, I don't see how we can achieve the peace all across the world, the countries there still don't like us at all. That makes me very angry even more than before and nothing that WE can do to change this world for far better than this anti-american crap!!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! Although I do remember what our president saying while being there for G-20 summit a few weeks ago, he said that we will never go war with Islam. That doesn't convince me strong enough to believe him that we won't go war with Islam...

What a waste, if you ask me!! I'm fed up of anti-american!!!!!! Never mind, I'm done being so damn angry.

al-Qaida didn't just wake up one day and decide to attack America. Our govt. has been imposing its will on the Middle East for some time now. They don't want us dictating to them in their own countries, so they decided to strike back at our nation. They would have no need to attack us if we didn't bully them around

And what about the time the U.S. were quite happy to work with them in fighting the Soviets in Aghanistan?
Were the Soviets that bad ?

Does the entire repertoire of your political analysis consist of libertarian talking points?

FYI, al-Qaida and the Taliban (then the Afghan mujahadeen) were born from the ashes of the Afghan-Soviet conflict. For all their bitching about the U.S. today, they weren't complaining when we helped them avert a Soviet takeover of Afghanistan. You bring certain things on yourself when you attack a country or support those who do. You become the enemy.

Why the hell would they complain? If you're in a burning house, and someone helps you get out of the house with your life, are you gonna sit there and complain about their motives? The US was giving them assistance, so that's all they cared about at the time. Are they hypocrites? Probably so. But that doesn't mean that we have to be there now.

And on the "libertarian" thing, if we'd listened to libertarians like Ron Paul and old conservatives like Pat Buchanan, instead of the socialistic Democrats and neocon Republicans, this country wouldn't be in the foreign policy mess it's in today. Our government creates ememies by its actions

Ron Paul is a closeted racist. David Duke told us almost 2 decades ago that they were going underground and infiltrating mainstream politics.

Dex, as one of the few resident registered (with a few libertarian leanings) republicans here, I certainly appreciate one who goes against the flow and is an independent thinker, even if it is just to provoke discussion. But to reference the two names you do above strains credulity. While I understand separating the man from the ideas, you cannot possibly think that either of these two men would improve matters for people of color.

Is that the only thing you have to say? To call someone racist?

He's not racist. Please explain why. Lemmie guess. Because doesn't believe in Affirmative Action or quotas, he's a racist? Because he doesn't see government as the solution to every single problem under the sun, he's a racist? And what does David Duke or any of this "racism" stuff have to do with discussing American foreign policy towards Pakistan and Afghanistan?

I read what Pat Buchanan wrote, and I didn't find it racist at all. It's true. Blacks, despite all the bad things that were done in the past, are lucky to be living in the US. Blacks in this nation live a lot better than blacks in most, if not all, other nations. I'm proud to be living in a country where I can say what I feel, believe what I wish, associate with whomever I choose, and make as much money as I can. The bad things in the past are behind us. It's not 1850 anymore. Just because he's not constantly holding his head in shame about the past doesn't mean he's racist

Dex how can you agree with his blatantly patronizing, paternalistic comments, "slavery was good for african americans"?!?!???!?! His stats are specious at best, flat out lies at worst. Of course America is an amazing place to live, full of opportunity, and nobody is saying it is still as bad as pre civil war days. But surely you have to know that Buchannan sees us as a collective joke, I could post link after link full of his vitriolic "code speak" racism towards african americans, simply not a good person to reference in a rational political conversation is all I am saying here.

    This is what Buchanan said:
He didn't say that slavery was a good thing. He just pointed out that many good things have come from being in America.

Hmm, seem to be splitting hairs here, they came here on Slave ships, hence he is making the argument that Slavery was good for African Americans in the long term, this is an indefensible position Dex. Please just do a google search for Buchanan and add the word racist and see how many articles pop up to get a complete picture of the man's views on African Americans, and it is not just liberal sources who are indicting him.
