This is fairly interesting- an online psych test where you can explore your hidden biases, whether they be regarding race, sex or weight. If you click on the 'Australian' section it even has United States and Australia as one heh http://www.tolerance.org/hidden_bias/index.html It's not just another online random quiz, it has scientific weight and was developed at harvard, amongst others. Check it out if you are game- the results might surprise you! I had a "moderate automatic preference for Australia over the United States" (sorry guys!) and "little to no automatic preference between black people and white people". Sadly most results show a bias towards white, not suprising with the way our media saturates us with rubbish. Recent scientific research has demonstrated that biases thought to be absent or extinguished remain as "mental residue" in most of us. Studies show people can be consciously committed to egalitarianism, and deliberately work to behave without prejudice, yet still possess hidden negative prejudices or stereotypes. So even though we believe we see and treat people as equals, hidden biases may still influence our perceptions and actions. Psychologists at Harvard, the University of Virginia and the University of Washington created "Project Implicit" to develop Hidden Bias Tests — called Implicit Association Tests, or IATs, in the academic world — to measure unconscious bias.
I checked out that study. I rather see a study on how the media contributes to hidden biases. Humans having conditioned biases is nothing new.
I have taken the test lbefore since I have been a member of SPLC for about 10 years now. I dont think everyone has biases but i think the majority do.
Yeah that is true, it's just interesting to check out your own I guess. The media thing would be difficult to quantify but I am positive there has been attempts at it in some sociological discipline.
