do you support the local economy?

Since I am on a backyard vacation, I am sitting here drinking wine and not going to bed. And thinking about my weekend.

I did a Mani-pedi at a local struggling nail shop. Threading at a local shop, massage at a brand new place, dead silent, no customers. 40 bucks for an hour of the best massage I ever had. I bought my hygiene necessities at a local beauty shop instead of the next door whalgreens.

I do thus a lot but I took time this time to talk to the owners and it is heartbreaking. Local mom and pop stores going out of business. I from now on, will not use the whalgreens for my hygiene needs but use that beauty shop instead and see if I can hook some of my workout buddies to use that massage place.

There was this mom and pop store down the road that had local produce only, they went out of business. Man, I wish they were there still.

I'm gonna try better to support the local economy.

    OK, enough rant. Lol

NO, Most of the local environment treats people like a-hole. They don't know how to treat customers with respect. From this one dude stating that we have no public restaurants(I didn't even need to use the bathroom) when I came in to pick up my online order to higher prices than your usual stores. It was bad before but now I have stepped up my game in simply ordering online from amazon. I'm just tired of local companies disrespecting people.

They also almost never have what I need. If they go down, not a problem for me. I'm in the tmc!

I am so with you on this. It breaks my heart to see running to cheap ass places like Walmart that destroy local economies. I try to do my part but I know I can do more. I'm really glad to see you doing the same.

Try using yelp and looking at reviews. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Amazon is good for some things but shouldn't completely replace local stores. Its just extracting wealth from your community like a leech till its bled dry and there's nothing left.

4th largest city in america. I don't have to tell a guy in NYC how local businesses take for granted customers because they have so many. It isn't until they are down in the dumps that they start showing respect to the customers.

Actually I experience the contrary my friend. With so much local competition they don't just rely on frequent traffic. Of course there are few bad apples but for the most part people are gracious because they want the repeat business.
Like I said use yelp or other review sites in my experience they are pretty dead on.

Than you so much for caring. For some reason this has bugged me lately more than before.
I will stop shopping at whalgreens etc and use the local mom and pop stores.

The woman at the local beauty shop really broke my heart with her story.

I agree w this. For the most part you find grateful shop owners at local stores, not chains-they usually don't care. At least not near as much as local mom and pop stores.

My gym in a local place and not a chain also

I really hope you change your mind about that fam. Big business doesn't give two shits about people and will gladly destroy everything if there's a profit in it for them.
Seems like so many people can't wait to live in an isolated world where they rarely leave their homes and stop interacting with other people. It's really weird because we're all we got.

I do where I can depending on my needs & affordability and depending on the the way they conduct their business and treat their customers.

I've always supported small business where and when I can and have been lucky with the fact that the bayside suburbs I live in are quite similar to a High Street in England. The stores I can find range from grocers to bookstores to nurseries to butchers and alternative health.

I try to as much as is feasible. Unfortunately, my budget doesn't allow for it on every single thing. I have to cheat and buy bulk items at Target (pronounced 'Tar-Jay', lol) or Family Dollar or K-Mart, because the savings are just ridiculous. I will not set foot in Wal-Mart, though. But in terms of restaurants, specialty stores and most mainline shopping, I prefer non-chain businesses. I'm also trying to limit my consumption of Chinese-produced goods.

I love the idea, buy I can't afford to support the local economy. If I have a choice of buying produce at the farmers market or Aldi, I'll buy it at Aldi because it's far cheaper, and often, is the exact same product (shipped in, rather than locally grown). I feel sad too, when I see local stores go out of business because they can't compete with the big retailers. But my budget rather than my ideals dictates where I must shop, unfortunately.

I've made the experience that less is more. I buy meat i.e. only twice a week and vegetables or fruits in small amounts. My body doesn't need so much. Sometimes, when I am in households I am seriously wondering. First they buy a lot of Food, afterwards they throw half of it away and then they buy pills to loose weight. I am not talking about you, I was just quoting you..:)

Walmart has destroyed my town. I only support the local hardware store and roadside fruit/vegi stands.

Yes I do support local business and farms as well for my produce and eggs. Little more, but worth it,
