Right. Cause we all just sponge off of men all our lives. WTFever. And it's especially rich coming from a guy who is still sponging off his parents. You'd better not let your mother hear you talk like this, or she won't make you any dinner. You are going back on my "ignore" list.
Is Cain basically saying, "You don't understand. The Republican party isn't struggling with Black people, it's struggling with poor people." Because fighting the poor actually seems just as bad as being racist. Or am I somehow misinterpreting this?
Damn, Dre it seems your friends list is getting bigger and bigger. May be you should write a book on how to make friends and win over enemies, lol.
Wow. As far as female comics, you might note again the CULTURE in which we live, in which funny women are supposed to be ugly, or stupid, or they get called bitches. As far as intelligence and innovation are concerned, that computer you typed this on? You know who the pioneers were in computer science? Women. That's right. As far as not *needing* intelligence, that's crap. I've worked all my life, supported myself *and* my son without benefit of child support from my ex husband, have supported a couple of boyfriends who were in a jam from time to time, bought my own home, etc, etc. No one ever paid my way. Yes, I HAD to be smart, and work twice as hard. You seem to be overlooking male privilege in a lot of areas. You're only ten years younger than I am, so you must remember at least PART of the 70s, when women just began to break out of the waitress/nurse/librarian/teacher mold. We didnt have the chance for education or experience prior to that. It's only been a generation. When I was a kid, those occupations I listed were the ONLY choices (except for stewardess and secretary) women could get, and they were routinely fired for gaining weight, getting married or having children. Oh and the computer science pioneers? Start with Grace Hopper. "Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (December 9, 1906 – January 1, 1992) was an American computer scientist and United States Navy officer. A pioneer in the field, she was one of the first programmers of the Harvard Mark I computer, and developed the first compiler for a computer programming language.[1][2][3][4][5] She conceptualized the idea of machine-independent programming languages, which led to the development of COBOL, one of the first modern programming languages. She is credited with popularizing the term "debugging" for fixing computer glitches (motivated by an actual moth removed from the computer). Because of the breadth of her accomplishments and her naval rank, she is sometimes referred to as "Amazing Grace". The U.S. Navy destroyer USS Hopper (DDG-70) was named for her."
Hey Nerdy, I created the thread in another section of the forum, I didn't want to derail this one. http://www.whitewomenblackmen.com/forum/showthread.php?p=542369
MrF is keenly aware of white privilege, but completely oblivious to male privilege. He also chooses not to see how both racism and sexism entail judging individuals not based on their own merits, but on morally arbitrary qualities over which they have no control.
I like how you noted someone who made a contribution over 30 years ago lol and btw I don't remember the 70s I didn't get here till the 80s :-D I never said women don't make contributions at all but no where near as many as men. Even things like philosophy where its based on ideas I don't see many women. In regards to comedy I think we don't see as many women doing it because imo comedy is pain shared and women generally share their pain through drama. And as a whole women lack the need to be funny. As stated before by hitchens men NEED to be funny women don't. I applaud you for standing on your own two feet but let's be fair and honest how many do you hear of going to college to get their MRS? Men don't have the train of thought to believe someone will take care of them it never enters our minds. A lot of women have the mentality of being taken care of.
And apparently you can't read psuedo professor because I acknowledged male privilege but racism and sexism are completely different especially within the context we are discussing. I gave clear reasons why men are naturally better physically(blame nature not me)men have bigger muscles and longer limbs and in almost every sport across the board that makes you superior. I also gave societal reasons as to why men are intellectually better. Our lives dictate different interests and different obligations regardless of race but not regardless of gender. I never once said women were incapable. Put your emotions away professor.
Today? I don't know ANY who are going to college for an MRS. For the record, I'm self taught, I didnt go to college. But what you've missed is that women's accomplishments have been downplayed and disappeared for many centuries. We haven't lived in a culture where women were ALLOWED to make those strides forward until my own lifetime. I know you understand how racial privilege works. Gender privilege works in a similar fashion, but it's often overlooked.
I guess for me growing up in todays world the best person is always picked for the job regardless of gender. In fact women are more likely to get hired over men in my experience. By the way blacks weren't and still aren't allowed to make strides in certain arenas yet we as a people still find a way to. I just have a hard time buying that women aren't allowed to do certain things. Maybe because I don't think in those terms. Who knows? Anywho thanks for the debate I enjoyed the exchange.
