I'm from a small inner-city town and there are alot of BM/LW relationships and even BW/LM relationships.. in this town we consider anyone who gets shitted on by the "white" (angelo) race, one with us in the struggle. So the question i'm asking is what's the general concensus on hispanic women?? Do you all still consider them white women? We don't. As a matter of fact most hispanic women I know are offended if they are called "white". It's a demeaning term to them. Let me know your opinion!!!

I've never thought of them as white.

    I don't I ever will either.

I don't think of them as being part of my stuggles.

    That's just me however...

:?: But aren't there some Hispanics that are more white or at least LOOK more white than others? Just like there are Hispanics/Latinos that LOOK more black or that are black like alot of the MLB players :!:

I really don't see them as part of the black struggle here in American. But it is really hard to classify them because there are black, white, native american and meszito(sp) Latins. But I will say this I would not mind dating a latin woman.

For the gazillionth time, Latino is not a race, it's an ethnicity. Understandably, it's an error Americans of every ethnicity make(including some Latinos themselves) but that does not make it correct. A Latino could either be white, black, mestizo, castizo and lots more. They come in all colors. There are some Latinos/as who look as dark as say Shaquille O'Neal(see Tego Calderon or pretty much any member of the Ecuadorian soccer national team). Conversely, there are some Latinos/as who are as bright skinned as Jessica Simpson(see Paulina Rubio). And there are many Latinos who have the stereotypical "brown, caramel, golden-skinned, natural tan" look. It seems to be the dominant image in the minds of most people, especially when they think of Mexicans and Puerto Ricans.

For example, my fiancee, by ancestry would be castizo - her father is a Colombian of European(Italian) descent- and her mother is a mestizo of Cuban/Dominican descent. A castizo is an offspring resulting from the union of a European and a mestizo, which i have explicitly underlined.

There are some Latinos who look "Oriental" even though they have other mixtures in them. In countries like Peru, Guatemala, El Salvador, the Asian Latino population is something in the region of about 5% each.

So, Latinas are very, very, very different from white women.

 True LC but can't a woman or a person be WHITE & LATINA at the same time :?: I believe so.

Yes you can. Say for example, both of your parents are Colombians of European descent and their last name is Amarillo or something. That certainly indicates some Hispanic ancestry. But if they looked just as fair skinned as a Swedish person, would you, because of a Spanish sounding last name, vindicate them of being white? I do not think so. So to answer your question, you can, indeed, be white and Latina at the same time. White or Caucasian, which ever you prefer, would be your skin color/racial group. Latino/a would be your ethnic/cultural demography.

I do understand completely that there can be extremely fair skinned latina women, but trust me the latina women I know DESPISE being called white. I know one who is constantly mistakened for italian. SHE HATES IT. She refers to caucasian women as f**king stupid a** blancas, or pale faces... even though she is as pale as them. I think latina women embrace their culture and it makes them ( at least in their minds ) consider themselves not white, even if their skin color is.

Well I think LC is right because Latino is so mixed that really they can be all different races...

Thats funny, cause I know a Puerto-Rican girl who acts the same damn way even though she does look white. I mean I understand what Laydeezman is trying to get across but honestly, people just go by what someone looks like and what features they personally have. On the street NO BODY is going to ask a complete stranger about their nationality/ethnicity/genetic composite/DNA sample or any of that shit! when determining their race lol.

I do see what you guys are saying though. I do know lots of Latinas who despise being called "white" but would be just as offended if you called them "black"(that is if you're retarded enough to do so). For example, so many people mistake my fiancee for Italian so many times, which is understandable as her father has Italian ancestry in him. But it happens a lot. However, when we went to Italy and Portugal last year, for some reason, not one person thought she were European. I wonder why that is. :!:

Seriously, Latinos, even when they're visibly possessing Caucasian features, do not like the white tag at all. But here's the tricky thing; they want to be accepted as whites. They would rather much be treated in mainstream America as white. If you go to the Latino community, which thankfully i have on many occasions, the surreptitious message is clear: white is better than black. My fiancee (based on her word) said that her parents didn't trip when she brought home white guys but the day she brought me to L.A, well, you know the rest

That depends on the person/family/ethnic group etc. I know plenty of Puerto Ricans/Dominicans/Cubans how look and consider themselves black and latino. Ofcourse I think every ethnic to a wants to atleast be treated equally with whites in this country. I have dated "dark" ricans/cubans and some of their families have been FRIENDLY as hell or maybe Iam just kewl like that 8) . Conversely there are those self-hating members dark hispanics as their are in any ethnic group.

I guess you could say that Arabs are in the same boat as being causasion but not accepted as white.

jeah.... I guess it really comes down to a family thing. my girl's family talks bad about her one cousin who is engaged to a white guy. They say she's trying to be better than everyone else and wash out her PR side. Maybe its haterism... maybe her cousin's family says the same thing about my girl and I...who knows...

Not trying to throw the thread off topic here, but would anyone else agree that certain Latinos/Latinas assimilate themselves with white people more if they mostly deal with white people, and do the same thing with black folks?
