Michael Steele was the head of the Republican National Committed and the former Lt. Governor of Maryland...but it wasn't just him. Phil Gingrey, an elected congressman from Georgia, criticized Rush Limbaugh and then quickly backed down. Even Mark Sanford backed down from criticizing Limbaugh and he was the sitting Governor of South Carolina!

But yeah, I guess visiting the White House a bunch of times trumps having actual elected politicians literally grovel at your feet for forgiveness.

I honestly couuldn't tell you anything about Sharpton's radio or TV shows. When I make decisions on who to vote for or who to support WWSD is at the very bottom of my list of considerations. He's just not that important to me and a lot of Black people under a certain age feel the same way.

Probably not. NYC is only about a quarter Black so that's probably not enough. Plus a few of them are probably Republicans and his numbers would probably decrease among younger people. My dad is a fan of Al Sharpton but he's also 69 years old. To a lot of younger people, he's just a bunch of noise.

True Andreboba. Sharpton does not have the juice of a Limbaugh or Hannity. The News Corp folks and right wing media made him up like that big boogie man. It is hatin and hatin. Besides, both those right wing guys went to the Bush White House both father and son. Where was the outrage? Crickets are chirping.

Well, the title of the second article you posted is "Al Sharpton Arguably Now the Most Powerful Person in America." It isn't "Al Sharpton Arguably Now the Most Powerful Person in Brooklyn." It isn't "Al Sharpton Arguably Now the Most Powerful Person in New York City." It isn't even "Al Sharpton Arguably Now the Most Powerful Person in the Building Where His Office Is." It is "Al Sharpton Arguably Now the Most Powerful Person in America." A country consisting of 50 states, thousands of towns, and millions and millions of people of all ages, races, religions, occupations, political persuasions, and backgrounds.

So is Sharpton more powerful than Sheldon Adelson? More powerful than the Koch brothers? More powerful than Warren Buffet? Apparently so because even though those other guys are billionaires with worldwide influence who can use their vast fortunes to make or break entire political campaigns, they apparently don't spend enough time "advising" the President about...um,stuff.

Is Al Sharpton powerful? Well, yeah. I don't really care for him but he does have some influence and if nothing else he's great at keeping his name in the media (even if the coverage he gets is more critical than anything else). But the most powerful person in America? Not even close. The author's a hack and the only thing keeping me from calling his entire premise a pile of steaming horseshit is the fact that actual horseshit is at least semi-useful.
