How is this a misleading headline?? The Constitution gives the President the authority to raise the debt ceiling independent of Congress, and Tea Party republicans seem perfectly willing to deny any increase in the debt ceiling unless Obama is willing preserve the Bush tax cuts with no increase in revenue to the Federal government. If Obama tries to act like the responsible adult in this entire affair and raises the debt ceiling independently from the Oval Office, I have no doubt the republicans in Congress will seek to impeach him, but since the Democrats are in a majority in the Senate, it would never happen. What kills me is how the GOP finds one of the few Blacks in Congress to put this shit out in the media, so no one can call the option to impeach the President 'racist'. Once again, this is what happens when you elect a whole bunch of people who HATE the government to be in charge of running it. If you let a gang banger become the warden of a prison, don't be surprised when he opens the front gate and lets all the inmates free.
Listen to the clip. Rep. Scott there would be the 'biggest war of alltime' if Obama tried to raise the debt ceiling and bypassed congress.
I understand, I just think its rhetoric in a small room for the time being. Despite my lack of financial knowledge, I agree with their premise.
they will get some TOM to do some dumb shit like that. where was he with that impeach shit when bush enacted homeland security or a war that was not needed.
Agree w Max, Misleading headline - its not planned as Obama has not done anything yet for that to happen. Geez. This is like paying interest on a loans you haven't taken yet. If he raises the dept ceiling, and it passes - I fail to see that as a basis of seeking impeachment as it is does not fall into reasons to seek impeachment. Full on "war" sure, impeachment? no.
Yeah, I should've said "impeachment possible against Obama". Instead, I replaced it with "planned" just to get a scare out of the people. Most likely, we're going to hit the ceiling anyway and I don't think a bi-partisan agreement will be reached. Minnesota's government is facing a shutdown already. We may really face our first default on our debt in history if something isn't reached by August 2nd!
We've already raised the debt ceiling before, but it was under Reagan. This isn't the first that this happened.
If it was wrong back then, then our country would have suffered tremendously and we would be in the same position as the Soviet Union economically speaking. But we managed to pull through with policies based on trial and error and we've managed to make due with it. The reasons to raise the debt ceiling have to be considered and practical. I do agree that we should consider other measures. But if raising the debt ceiling is a considerable option, then at least make some common sense stipulations, like aiming to raise taxes for wealthy Americans and keep the tax cuts for middle and working class. There has to be a balance in all this if we all don't want to end up like Greece. As for amnesty for illegals, it's not a horrible idea either. Again, we have to consider some practical stipulations though to make it more effective.
Of course. And generally those that don't are the same ones that can afford to pay extra taxes. Hence, the wealthy people. They are getting over everyone like a fat rat.
There he is again ya'll...everybody's favorite Uncle..lol Always running interference for white guys. You are one sad BM if you are indeed a BM.
A flat tax won't work. It's an unrealistic proposal. A tax system overhaul would have to be suggested first. Plus you're pretty much off base given that: In short, they still pay taxes.
So by your way of thinking, if there's a flat tax rate across all income levels, the rich would still pay more (or less) based on state taxes and other taxes? That won't really solve anything at all. It'll just be the way it is now, just a slightly different change in the tax codes.
Basically, we want to phase the Republicans out from having a say in terms of the debt ceiling and reducing the nation's deficits. Remember that our country's credit rating is at risk also. If Obama were to invoke it, due to the resistance of the Republicans, they will take action to impeach Obama, mainly because they do not the government to have more power over the country and taxes to be raised on the wealthy.
Read what you wrote, that 47% of all Americans don't pay ANY taxes. You didn't make a distinction between income and sales tax. Your fault, not mine.
