I'm with you on that IB. I'd rather be able to see the good and the bad, than wander through life oblivious. Not sure why I find that preferable, probably just that desire to be aware and make informed decisions.

I know people like that, and if you overthink everything it will make you crazy. But really the higher your intellect, the better able you should be to rationalize and make sense of everything around you. Sometimes that makes people a little dull, and I find they almost always lack common sense.

I understand what you are saying " because someone else is doing it...." but I guess some people are where they would say they would never ever think about it. But seeing a celeb do it then it may they may think about it. It just food for thought.

then maybe being dumb and happy is being better than smart and sad.

I wish I saw this post before I posted mine because Im saying the same thing. " I would rather be dumb and happy than smart and sad. "

Well that's your take, but I'm the opposite. I want to be informed, and smart doesn't always equal sad. Happiness is a choice. You may not like your life or the current circumstances, but that doesn't mean you can't accept them and learn to be content.

I agree with you but somewhere in the thread soemone eluded to they would rather be dumb and happy than smart and sad. and I was just cosigning with that.

then again we have to ask ourselves what is dumb and what is smart. that is very relative. that is another subject though.

    Bwahaahahahahaha.

Is happiness 100 % a chioce tho, how would ya explain this to some folks who're saying that they're preordained by some genetic force not to be happy then.

I'd tell them they're full of shit, suck it up and move on... but probably a little nicer than that most days.

There is much in life that may be out of your control, but your attitude isn't one of those things GZ. Being happy isn't a function of loving every little thing about yourself or your life, it's the ability to accept what is and be at peace with the fact that you change what you can and deal with what you can't. It's called contentment.

Indeed, very well said. You should consider being a motivational speaker. If you speak and sound as well as you write, there is a third a career for you-motivational speaker.

Folks today we have Dr. Espy The motivational speaker, she is the author of these two books: Suck it up and move on & Attitude is everything.
Her topic today is -Atitude ...not aptitude that determines your altitude.

why the long face in super bowl Sunday? Aren't you folks big in foot ball in the south? I know there is no pro team in OK but the saints are from the south.
In small and mid size American cities, I swear it's a religion- when I was in INDY... city and Green bay for job prospects, all the ppl from infant to grave ready grandpa-were only talking about foot ball this and foot ball that to the point that I almost vomited on my interview suit. Jesus

They are actually crazy about football around here, but college tends to be the focus for obvious reasons. I don't watch college ball. I don't mind NFL, but it's not like I'm gonna be oblivious to everything else on Superbowl Sunday. In fact I don't plan to watch it, it's really not a big draw this year. I'm very much take it or leave it on the subject.

same here. I like Manning but got enough of his dose. I was rooting for another underdog team. Anyways, I predict the Manning machine will whip the saints unless the saints have some Saint looking out for them.

Also I figure you folks are all about college ball and Sam Bradford down there....

This is out of the blue but anyway...have you seen a TV show- late nites on MSNBC... I am not sure if the show is based on Tulsa or Ok city... but this dude who walks around with cam corder in one of the above city and film and bust the street sex industry.... he calls himself a John buster or something like that....I did not know the streets had that much problem... his show is kind of a hit.

That may be OKC, but if he's on 11th street it may be Tulsa. That's the main hooker hangout downtown. After dark you see all kinds of interesting people in that area.

I would have to respectfully disagree. I think happiness comes from innocense. I can't remember a time where I was as happy as when I was a child. So filled with hope and totally fearless. Check out "Once when I was little" by James Morrison. It pretty much sums up my thoughts on the subject.

So you think once innocence is lost that happiness is no longer possible? I don't agree with that, what a depressing thought that would be. That would mean everything from about age 9 on for me would be unhappy, and it hasn't been. I think some people are capable of choosing to manifest happiness, or maybe contentment is a better phrase. I've done it for much of my life. I may not have been pleased with my life, but I accepted there was only so much I could do to change it, and sometimes it was necessary to do things I really didn't enjoy just to keep the peace for everyone else. I wasn't genuinely happy with it, but knowing what had to be done I accepted it for what it was and chose to be content. Just because I don't like something doesn't mean I have to let it make me miserable, I always have a choice in the matter. Sometimes literally the only thing in your control is how you choose to react.
