Never disregard the power of the stupids. Plus, if either one of them gets elected, they can still elect a VP to help shuffle in some extra voters that are...unreachable. Think about McCain and Palin last cycle...
You do have a point... Christie from New Jersey is probably starting to loom larger than life as things come into focus... He'd probably appeal to all of those mainstream Republicans who aren't quite sold on the characters holding main stage right now.
During the early part of the primaries, after the dismal debates of Perry, Chris Christie was courted by a lot of people to run. But he declined and have no plans to even be VP. Not only that, he's not far to the right as many people would like him to be. He supports civil unions and some gun control measures.
