In light of what is taking place in North Korea with that sophisticated nuclear plant that was built under the U.S. nose without the United States knowing anything about it. The Japanese have been unhappy about the U.S. response. I say let Japan go nuclear with their own nuclear defense forces and with their own missile defense systems. If you want to get the North Koreans attention along with China (who helped them), arm the Japanese or let them arm themselves. The North Koreans and Chinese respect strength especially when it comes to the Japanese, not the Americans who appear to be a paper tiger to them. When the Japanese return to militarize again, asia will stand up and take notice.
I couldn't find a pic of two men covered in gasoline with matches threatening each other. The point of the start treaty is to lower the number of nuclear weapons. If one of those countries get nuked in the right place it might make earth unable to support life.
pretty ironic...afer all, the only nuclear weapons to be used against people, were dropped right over Japan ironic if they would want nuclear capability, anyway
I also don't think the Japanese people would support it. Also, isn't this simply wishful thinking so that the U.S. doesn't have to further strain its own military resources? You can attempt to reach a solution by further militarizing or by de-militarizing. However, adding more weapons and armament to the equation of hegemony is a short term solution, which only creates the illusion of ultimately reducing conflict.
Time for the United States to stop being the world's policeman and let these wealthy countries like Japan, Germany, South Korea and hundreds other shoulder more of their own defense burdens. We cannot AFFORD to do this anymore.
The Japanese are a war-like people, by nature. (Sorry if that sounds racist!) You let them develop nuclear arms, and you may not be able to put the genie back in the bottle, so to speak. Still I think it would be a great idea in some respects if we had a nuclear Japan to buttress against the threat of China and North Korea.
The genie is already out of the bottle so to speak in reference to the Chinese and North Koreans. The Japanese see it in their best interest to develop their own self defense forces. True, historically the Japanese were vicious in their conquest of the Chinese and the Koreans. I say let them (the Japanese) put the fear of Bushido of the Samurai code back in the hearts of their present enemies. Let the Chinese and North Korean cry UNCLE to the Japanese.
