Maybe mccain should win!

After reading the Obama vs. mccain thread, watching mccain's numbers go up as he spews one untrue negative ad after another...even though people say they dont like politicians who use negative ads, reading polls where 5-20% of white people say the race of a candidate is important (read: wont vote for Obama because he's black), Im beginning to think...maybe mccain should win and become president.

As a board member said a few days ago, "you get the government you deserve." But even after eight years of w, in which our standard of living has went in the toilet, the U.S. currently fighting two wars AT ONE TIME , and out of control government spending (on everything except us) has left this country financially destitute, people still cant see the writing on the wall.

Why? Because we havent hit rock bottom. Maybe the united states is like a big crackhead and we wont change our ways until we're broke, homeless, and all of our friends have deserted us because they're tired of trying to help a lost cause.

Maybe mccain should become president...exposing us to four more years of the same conservative policies that got us in this mess.
-Another war, or at least sending troops to georgia like mccain has suggested...
-even more tax cuts for the wealthy, shifting more of the tax burden on the working class...
-repealing roe vs. wade and making abortions illegal...
-and continuing the erosion of the rights of everyday people. Hell, I wouldnt be surprised with mccain as president if we go back to the day when women are fired for getting pregnant. (Our non-descriminating government just rescinded a job offer to someone because they had a sex-change operation.)

The point is, we are only half way to hell and we've only been coasting. Mccain's gonna put us in the fast lane and drop the hammer! Maybe thats what we need. To spiral out of control and crash nose first into oblivion. Only then...maybe....will we see the error of our ways. (Yeah, right!)

As for Obama, he's gonna be alright. He's gonna be the nice guy you should have married (who becomes the success you knew he would) instead of the abusive, alcoholic, foul-mouthed dumb ass you married because he knocked you up one weekend in jamaica.

Obama plans to end both wars, bring our troops home, institute universal health care, protect a woman's right to choose, and raise taxes on those making considerably more than $200k (mccain...people making $1-4 million dollars ARE RICH!) But, realistically, our problems cant be solved in four years, and conservative pundits are gonna expect Obama to walk on water. Getting us on the right path wont be enough for them. And if he makes even one misstep, conservatives are gonna say, "ahha! I knew that non-patriotic, terriost loving, muslim mullato would f*ck this country up!" Who wants to deal with that crap?

So the question has to be asked...not if Obama is the best man to take this country forward, because he is, but "are we ready for Obama?"

This kinda reminds me of a girl I used to kick it with about 3 years ago. Her ex-husband had abandoned her and their 1 year-old son. Not only did he do that but he fucked up her credit, forced her to drop-out of college so she could cater to him, cheated on her numerous times, gave her an STD, and used to beat her ass on the regular. He also had a criminal record and had left the area due to having various warrants out on him.

So what does she do? She dumps me only to go back to him after she cried in my arms about how much of an asshole he was towards her & their son. I can’t even begin to wonder why so many sistas keep doing this. They stumble upon a good dude, and then they go back to the one who dragged them through the mud on several occasions.

Now I’m not perfect by any means, but compared to her ex-husband I look like Mahatma Gandhi. That’s exactly what this country is on the verge of doing, and if they vote for McCain that’s exactly what they deserve.

    Obama in 08!!! :smt023

This is a very thought provoking essay. However, I think it's dangerous to pin our hopes on one man and one man only.

Obama, to me, seems like the better candidate, but he's just ONE MAN. He can't get anywhere without the "OK" from Congress.

And it's also time to realize that all people are fallible and Obama might not turn out to be the leader that everyone is banking on. He might get into office and realize that is message of change can't be realized.

I'm all for Obama '08 - but I realize that he doesn't have a magic "cure-all" to save this country from all of its ills.

I had it with 8 years of stupidity and death from a guy who acts like a baby. The country needs new leadership and Obama is the man. McCain had his chance and blew it. Now I hope there would not be a Bush Third Term.

Hey Jelly, can you tell me how your STANDARD OF LIVING has gone down?

Are you broke, have no plumbing, paying OUTRAGEOUS electricity, and water bills? Can't afford to go out and get nice clothes etc. Have you had to sacrifice ANYTHING of significance that you think your standard of living has "gone in the toilet?"

You really are one for hyperbole are you? You REALLY HONESTLY THINK, that, in our country, there is a possibility that a woman would get fired for getting pregnant? Have you felt the "pinch" of the erosion of civil rights? And if so, what happened? Because I'm fairly certain that most of America HASN'T, which is why they will vote for Mccain.

I'll bet if this were 1968 instead of 2008 I'll bet some people would still vote for Richard Nixon no matter how much better a candidate that Bobby Kennedy would've been.

Some folks are just afraid of change. :smt009

Nobody is afraid of change. The Nixon era was considerably different because there was no event that was on the scale of 9/11.

9/11 changed EVERYTHING, because it brought to the forefront the conundrum of balancing security and freedom. What's the perfect balance?
It get's f'ing old when people BITCH and MOAN about "eroding civil liberties" although they probably have NEVER experienced a situation that made them think that. If we get attacked, we begin another commision about what measures WEREN'T taken to safeguard us.

We haven't been attacked in 7 years. I think besides Iraq and 9/11, the past 2 terms have been just like every other.

Oh my god it's official, you've become delusional. [IMG]

Like I mentioned before, I dont feel one bit safer now than I did pre-9/11.

The funny thing is that most people would rather have McCain in office because he is white rather than a black man who offer change in everything. It may not be possible for change in everything but at least he is willing to try. McCain will be just like Bush, so if another war is started or our economy goes even further to hell, then they have no one to blame other than their own racial ignorance. Why don't anyone see that McCain and Bush are tight buddies?

Really? That could be due to the last Democratic president we had, Clinton, allowed 5 major terrorist attacks around the world. So far, we've had 1 on Bush's watch.

I'm not delusional, just simply stating the facts, as you make arguments and supply them with no substance. 1 to 5. Argue those. Facts.

I can tell right now that you're one of those flag-saluting folks who praise the Bush administration as flawless and "what America really needed". It's not just about terrorist attacks, it's about the state of our economy as a whole, and our global standing around the world. We were in much better shape 8 years ago and republicans have used 9/11 as their scapegoat for much of their wrong-doings.

So I'll just quote a question that the webmaster asked that still hasn't been answered:

Well, if you presume to tell me what I am, than I'll generalize you as a tree hugging liberal that is only voting for Barack because he is black. How does it feel?

I AM NOT a flag waving voter who think Bush does no wrong. He's made MANY mistakes regarding the conducting of the Iraq War. So many mistakes it makes me sick. But I believe we were justified in going in, I believe the economy, as taught in every single business school, goes through cycles of up and downs that are NATURAL. I believe in traditional marriage, and my money should be SPENT BY ME because it is EARNED BY ME, not the government to distribute it as they see fit.

Mccain is a better choice because he does NOT want to make Medicare a system that is universal, he does NOT want to expand social services, thus allowing ME to spend my money and not people who sit on their ass all day living off the system.

THAT'S why I'm voting for Mccain and why he is a better choice. In MY EYES. People are free to disagree with me, because of difference circumstances. But don't presume to label me if you don't want to be labeled back.

I honestly believe we have two good candidates running for office. I would like to see Obama win but I am not expecting him to right all the wrongs of the last 8 years and believe it or not the 8 years before that. The true problem is the USA in today's society can no longer afford a president to have the ability to run for office a second time.

Two terms gives an administration too much time to do damage, it also provides a president the opportunity to completely ruin his first term. Name a president coming out of two terms that was considered as favorable to their constituents as they were coming out of their first term? Any president that wants to lead the USA towards the 21st century should have the 22nd Amendment ratified to eliminate two terms. Let Obama or McCain do their thing, then get the F out and let the next man or woman shine or fail, at least if they fail we know they won't be around a second time!

    Maybe McCain shouldn't win.

I think McCain will do what Bush did...

but, at a slower rate so it's not as noticeable within the four years he serves as Pres.

They share similar mentalities about our spending and efforts.

    9/11 was a ploy anyways.

How can you in one breath chastise TonyS for presuming to know who you are, when in the one before you presume to know who I am? You presume that my standard of living hasnt gone down? That I havent "felt the pinch of the erosion of my civil rights" or had to sacrifice something significant? (Dont make assumptions based on a avatar.)

If you took the time to listen to women, you would find out its not as uncommon as you think for a woman to be forced to resign from her job because of a pregnancy. The pregnancy discrimination act is only 30 years old, and the family and medical leave act is even younger. The reason these bills were enacted was because women were being discriminated against and to protect their rights. (FYI: the U.S. has the worst maternity leave of any industrialized country. Legislation clinton proposed to increase it was shot down by "w" in his first term.)

What we are experiencing is not a normal ebb and flow of the economy. Unprecedented increases in gas and food prices, a housing crisis with no end in sight, and a 10 trillion dollar deficit (kiss you $ bye-bye...thanks to w) all at the same time is far from normal.

And there is no security in the world worth torture, indefinite imprisonment, and the loss of our civil rights.

Wow, this is like the 2nd time you have accused me of that. So I'll just go ahead and re-hash EXACTLY what I said before regarding your erroneous accusation since you clearly didn't hear me the first time:

I really don’t like repeating myself. Especially to a self-hating racist who is probably posing as a "BlkCasanova" while posting on this message-board by accusing me of giving a pass to Sen. Obama solely on his skin-color. You really don’t understand do you? There was a time when a black person was looked at as a 2nd-class citizen and now there is about to be a president who is of mixed heritage. That’s called progress and it was going to happen one day eventually, it just happed sooner than we all thought.

I could give less than a Canadian nickel what Obama looks like because I want the best person for the job. I’m guessing that you’re either an affiliate of the illuminati or skull & bones secret society or something. You probably wept when Ronald Reagan died, and you’re probably the person who would rather be antagonistic as opposed to settling issues with a simple conversation.

I love my country, but nimrods like you make me embarrassed about my country.

So basically in your patriotism you forget about your fellow Americans. The plight of Americans with no healthcare is nothing to you except a money drain, huh? What about honest, hard-working people who just can't fucking afford to go to the doctor?

I haven't had health insurance since I was 18, because that's when the government funded insurance I had ran out. My mother struggled through abuse, poverty, and a whole fuckload of shit you could never understand just to get her college education, and while she worked fulltime and attended a full schedule of classes at night at the community college, the government made sure that my younger brothers didn't die because mom couldn't afford to take them to the doctor.

My father is disabled, and gets SSI. A paltry $800, from your pocket, make sure that my family doesn't die, because even with my college educated mother working as many hours as possible every week they can barely afford anything. My father, while my opinion of him may not be the best, is not some lazy fuck who just wants to live off your dime...He has a massive brain injury and no one will hire him because he's a liability, since his brain doesn't work right anymore.

I have been struggling all my life, and I work hard for what I've got. I still can't get any sort of healthcare, because the only insurance offered to me through the shitty jobs waiting tables and serving fucks like you your goddamn frosties and fries has insanely stupid deductables and copays and pretty much takes half a paycheck, every payday, just so I could go to the doctor and pay for everything anyway. Half of minimum wage may not seem a lot to you, but when you work 60 fucking hours for 300 dollars every two weeks let's see how willing you are to shell out half of it just so you have a piece of paper that says after you pay 500 bucks you can get 30 percent off the stupid prices of healthcare in this fucking country.

And you know what, I'm not trying to live off the government. I'm just trying to survive when the only jobs I can get without a college degree are not even going to pay me enough to cover rent. I go to college full time and in 3 more years I'll be able to afford healthcare, but what the fuck am I supposed to do in the meantime, huh? Am I less of a huma, less deserving of basic care when I'm sick than you simply because I can't fucking afford it? I can't help that I was born poor, and I'm doing everything in my power to make sure that I and my future children don't have to suffer for it, but in the meantime I'm suffering because I can't even afford a goddamn doctor visit to get a prescription of antiobiotics, the shit that people like you, who want for nothing, take for fucking granted because you've never had to worry about it.

And yes, I know I'm making assumptions about you and your status, but frankly I've never heard someone who has actually been poor bitch about poor people taking their money for basic needs, like health care.

I'd like to see how you feel after 5 years of wearing the same pair of glasses, broken like a mofo, because you can't afford the 250+ it'll take for an eye exam and a new pair, because you don't have insurance.

I'd like to se how you feel after 5 years of not going to a dentist, because you can't afford what it's going to take for a simple cleaning, let alone the major dental work you sorely need.

Let's see how you fucking feel having to make the decision to self-treat wounds, sickness, and disease, because you can't afford to go to the doctor and THEY WONT LET YOU ANYWAY because you don't have insurance. Because the common misconception is that hospitals can't turn anyone away. No. They can't turn away life-threatening injury. If you're bleeding to death, you can get help. But if you're slowly dying of cancer, and you have no health care, what the fuck are you supposed to do?

"Sorry, Johnny, I know you have pancreatic cancer, but I just refuse to give you that 30 cents from my paycheck, because I don't feel you deserve the money I worked hard for. You should ignore how badly yor chemo makes you feel and just go get a job at McDonald's so you can afford to spend every dime you make to pay about 15 percent of your hospital bills. Sorry dude, it's not personal, you're just lazy"

    Give me a fucking break.

I don't want your fucking money. Go spend it on the important things in life, like new tvs and new cars, cause you deserve it for being a stellar example of a human being. Because I'm lazy, that's why I can't afford doctors.
