After she and her husband worked for Jimmy Carter's reelection campaign, she noticed that Jimmy Carter was proposing more progressive policies. This disappointed her immensely. She's always been a small town neoconservative, especially on social issues, so her first time she went Republican was when she voted for Reagan. Since then...she became part of the GOP.

She's always been bat shit crazy, so that shouldn't come to no surprise. Rick Perry, Governor of Texas, was at one point a Democrat. Albeit a conservative one.
