It's not in a school. It's in a bar. And because of her clothes, I know she's celebrating "russefeiring". Anyone who have ever been to Norway during the month of May will find this very obvious.

"Russefeiring" is more or less a party for high school seniors that lasts a month or more. They'll party the hardest the two first weeks of may though. The "Russefeiring" will end very suddenly at May 17th (constitution day). 2 weeks before the final exams.

The text says this girl's trying to be voted class president. Not true. She's not looking for a political career :lol:
She's trying to be voted russe-president. Each school will elect a candidate, the candidates will then compete against each other nationally. The president will get all tickets to parties for free, a lot of free drinks etc... A lot of girls will choose this girl's tactic, cause they're hoping for the male votes

Do a google picture search on "russ" or "russefeiring" and you'll see loads of more "normal" pictures from this celebration.


Oh, and if anyone thinks that one month of partying 2 weeks before the finals, might ruin people's grades, you are absolutely correct

Anyway, when you've got 20 girls all doing the same trick, that thing is not going to guarantee you a victory...

And in the era of cellphone-cameras and internet, it could ruin these girls future careers. They're just too young and too drunk to realize. (Only a few girls will take it this far you see. There are tens of thousands of russ every year. Half of them girls. Perhaps 50 are desperate/drunk enough do this stunt.)

Many youths will also take up loans to pay for the celebration. So there's absolutely downsides to this tradition (a tradition that's more than a century old btw, but it took of completely during the 40s, and get "worse" every year.)

I was russ myself more than a decade ago (before we had to worry about cellphone-cameras). I was not the biggest party-goer, and there were a bunch of arrangements I didn't partition in (some do worry a bit about grades...) That month still cost me aprox 3.000$ that I took of my savings. I think that was a quite normal budget at the time. I don't know what the average russ will spend nowdays, but the most extreme ones will use up to 30.000$. That's a lot of drinks in one month... A few dies each year... No kidding!
