The cartoon leaves room for lots of negative interpretation based on the fact blacks were called monkeys for many generations.

So anything that involves a monkey is racist?

You know what, you're right. I really do miss the point in being so infatuated with racism that people have to so actively obsess and search for it on whatever they lay their eyes on, no matter how fucking rediculous or absurd it is. If it's a dumbass cartoon with a monkey in it or a fucking movie (Friday the 13th thread) because there's a black guy in it who's jacking off instead of having sex like a couple of his white friends. Like that shit doesn't happen anyway. No, no, black men never jack off, black men always have a woman to fuck if he wants to. That is "so racist" that he has to rub one off instead of fucking a girl like his white friends. GROW THE FUCK UP! But what do I know right? I'm just a white girl. Fine, ya'll do your part in keeping racism so fucking alive and well by so persistently insisting on seeing most everything that way and shoving it in everyone's faces. Besides, if it was no longer a part of life, what the hell would there be left for the ones who are so in love with it to obsess over? Christ! :vom:

    Brit...youre an idiot.

The fact that bmj agrees with you should let you know that youre on the wrong side of the fence.

When you associate a white person with another primate (humans are primates too), the individual is the object of criticism not the group that he or she belongs to.

Whites have a long history of denigrating black people by associating us with other types of primates, typically African monkeys or chimps.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porch_monkey#P

It's also not the first time a conservative has linked Obama with monkeys or chimps. They don't have the courage to say what they really mean, so they use coded symbols to express their racism.

Yea, I know about the history of denigrating black people by associating them with monkeys. I guess I just wish if the cartoonist or t-shirt graphic designer said they meant no offense, then it would just be left at that and people could move on. I don't feel that brooding over something so negative as racism is helping anyone, especially when it's being said by the actual person who made it, that it had no racist intent. :smt086 But oh well. Bye bye politics, I've learned my lesson again.

Since you obviously dont read nor do you have any concept of history, let me explain to you why I said youre an idiot.

    1) In the ny post, on the opposing page, there wasnt an article about the chimp attacking the lady...there was an article about Obama pushing the stimulus bill.

The way the post is organized, world news and political news is in the front...near page six...which is where the cartoon was.

Now page six is usually reserved for celebrity news and gossip. But they put the cartoon on page six to relate it to the article about Obama on the opposing page.

    2) White people have been saying blacks are more primate than human ever since the 3/5th rule. (Look it up!) To think that a newspaper editor didnt know that or realize that such a careless cartoon could be easily misinterpreted is to believe in the easter bunny. (No, he's not real.)

You do remember this from your friends on the conservative right?

    3) The NYC Police have a long history of killing and abusing the civil rights of blacks. Combine that with rupert murdoch owning the post and bigots getting their amusement from comparing blacks to primates, and its easy to see how so many people have drawn the conclusion that they have.

    See thats idiotic!

...and spoken like someone who isnt continously depicted as a monkey. If newspapers depicted all white people who lived below the poverty line as hillbilly trash who married their siblings in cartoons, but under every cartoon they said, "Dont be offended, because we dont mean anything by it", you dont think white people should be outraged.

I wouldn't care, if someone wanted to do that, then that is their problem, not mine. :)

Just wondering, why would you generalize someone while pointing out racism to them?
I'm not any of those dumbass labels. I have disagreements and agreements with both sides.

    jellybrain you are an idiot

First learn to tie your own shoes, then maybe you'll "understand" what satire is...

People like al Sharpton, who made this cartoon bigger than it actually is are just opportunists, ready to call out racism on ANYTHING. I mean, if you personally are not racist, and want racism to go away, you will never mkae the interpretation that a monkey has any connection to a black man.

A monkey is a monkey ,and a black man is a black man. People should get that through their jellybrains instead of yelling racism whenever they see a monkey

BMJ, I don't really like you and I'm sure it goes both ways, however, I do like what you said...this time.
