Finally, something for the college folks. Dead on Arrival though. Republicans/Conservatives aren't going for educating America. What a world...
Community colleges go beyond degrees and setting people up for 4-year studies too They offer technical/trade/cert stuff here if i recall correctly That would be a huge plus for potential students looking to shuck debt Late edit - they offer degrees and certifications here...just checked I coulda swore they offered some technical diplomas before hmmm
I'm happy that the US is trying to catch up with advanced industrial nations like Germany, that provide free university education.
"The trouble with Socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money." Margaret Thatcher
Or the problem with socialism is that you're going to be forced to re-evaluate what you actually value. If you can spend billions on military equipment that will never leave the lot then why not reallocate that money to invest in your people? The money is obviously there.
The sweet irony of a poster who went through the system paid by taxpayers to post a politician who went through a system that was paid by the tax payer. If you think education is costly, Try Ignorance.
The community colleges still offer vocational certificates as well as degree programs. Guidance counselors always advise those students going into a 4 year university to go through a junior college first before going to a university. But some are very hard to get into(unless you have the money, as well as the grades). The University of Florida has the highest of standards, as does the University of Miami and Florida State University. The University of Florida expects those interested to maintain a 4.0 g.p.a. and have taken(depending on the major) 4-5 math courses like algebra, calculus and finite math. Math is my worst subject.
There's a good website around that has digital worksheets from all of the major math textbooks. It has the problems as well as virtual tutors to help you solve them. Math is always a tricky subject because usually you only have one right answer to any given problem. You can't bullshit your way through it like with other courses that have open-ended questions, task you with memorizing textbook definitions or focus on writing papers. It's very procedural. With that said...there's something for everyone in college. You don't always need upper-level math to have a worthwhile degree.
http://www.studentnewsdaily.com/editorials-for-students/welders-make-150000-bring-back-shop-class/ Unfortunately trade grads are still snubbed by college grads because of a variety of factors, such as duration of schooling, prestige of universities and so forth But ask yourself..... Would you rather be a trade grad making good money..enough to propel you well into the middle class (stable job, apt/house, car, FOOD)...or a 'college bum' with a fancy degree and no job?
I would love to take a math course that only challenged you with word problems where you would have to figure out which branch of mathematics and application to use to solve the problem. Ideally it would be structured where you could take turns solving hypothetical problems in different fields like social science, business, engineering, and forensic science to allow you to focus on building a conceptual approach to problem solving. I rather it focus on critical thinking skills rather than writing papers. Would gladly pursue an advanced degree in mathematics if I found a program like that.
Sounds like something related to applied mathematics With institutions pulling majors out of their ass, I'm sure it exists as far as grad programs are concerned
Hell, given the math & science skills deficit in this country, those should be funded all the way to the PhD level, if you're willing to work 5-10 years in the USA.
Afaik there are too many PhDs and not enough jobs that actually require them Would be an awesome bragging point tho 'Call me dr, bitch!'
According to all the ruling class' mythology, if we would just get a trained workforce and increase their supply (to lower their wages), we would attract more jobs and investment and...lift all boats.
Love that mushrooms But real talk if there were more educated people maybe they couldn't get over on us so damn easily. Our biggest problem in this country is its filled with uninformed dopes who go along with the talking head of their choice rather than information and facts. Even if unemployment stayed where it is and we got more PhD candidates how would that be a bad thing? Especially if it's free.
A part of me is like....if you simply value education, go as far as you can and learn as much as you can and don't worry about a job But the other part is like.....all of this time and money spent needs to at least get a brotha out of his mommas basement
Too many educated people around and they start...you know...questioning things. I just hope I don't end up in the homeless shelter at the end of the summer, lol.
We'll start a collection lol If anything do what a lot of my lawyer friends did for a minute and teach until something frees up. It's a never ending grind fam. I had to do bs jobs when I was transitioning it happens.
