I'm wondering if there is a real way to make extra cash from home. I looked at those ads that promise leads to sales / data entry jobs. My brother laughed at me and said "they make you pay them, right? yeah, streets are paved with money, just gotta find the right street." :?

Any thoughts folks?

Search your local library for "how to" books which may give you ideas.

Two broad categories are selling products or services. The most important thing is to know how to attract your buyers and make your sales.

Just a few ones:
1 Babysitting, child care. (care of babies costs typically more per day/week than care of elementary school-age children)
2 Auto repair (if you have a big enough driveway or garage), or any type of motor/engine-powered device repair
3 Braiding/weaving hair
4 Mail forwarding/receiving
5 nude photographer (one who photographs nude subjects for private purposes)
6 company called west has a website workathomeagent(dot)com (for answering calls from 800 numbers, take a test, become a 1099 contractor)
7 skip tracing (critically necessary for private investigation), typically used by collections companies
8 legal researching (good for suing someone)

10 billing/collections agent (typically make use of skip tracing)
11 ghost writing (for helping the legally challenged by drafting quality documents)

24 farming particularly selling organic foods near a 50k population metro area (honey, raw cow/goat milk, etc.), see a book $100,000 on 100 acres or less written by a black man to find out how to organize your farm for maximum profits.
25 Author a book or series that people find interesting (the female author of harry potter is reportedly a billionaire), perhaps the toughest part is publishing and marketing
26 Book publishing
27 inventor (must have investors and/or capital to carry you through the non-income days/years), dangerden(dot)com hosts the creations which started with three engineering friends (one of whom I met) and they appear to be doing well to this day
28 Buy a company, this was the suggestion of a college buddy who at the time was creating a plan to buy a company after he spent some time talking with the highest grossing (in 2006 and 2007) black businessman (see BlackEnterprise.com Click on BE 100s)

I make more selling on Ebay than the average American makes on their full time jobs..

Sell things you know about...from a field you are familiar with..

I agree wholeheartedly @ eBay since probably 10% of all online transactions are through eBay.

Flaminghetero, if you do great on eBay you might do even better with your own website marketed along with your eBay store. But hat's off to you nonetheless.

A wise proverb (Ecclesiastes 5:9) states: Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field.

Another proverb (Proverbs 14:23) states: In all labour there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

And some labor produces better profit than other labor.

So go do what ever it is.

I think I'll start an e-bay business whit African artifacts some day, when I live in Cameroon. You can get stuff there extremely cheap, so it shouldn't be too hard to make a profit....

I used to tutor and I could do it again, but it's not exactly a work from home job. It's just another part-time job, like cashier or security officer, which I did too. It seems to me so far that work from home is for folks with a business streak and it's mostly sales.

I buy things on Ebay but usually only brand new items. The only used item I've bought so far was a Pimsleur language course which the company sells for almost 300.00 while I paid 117.00
