I liked Interrace because it was an honest magazine about the interracial lyfestle. Every story printed was a shared true account of the things these couples went through. I heard the magazine went out of publication because Candy Mills had been getting death threats. I looked at a website called Interracial Voice. It was a little more political than Interrace and it had not been updated since I last visited in '06. If a magazine like Interrace were to come out, it would need to bigger and have a publisher that knows how to sell it and the website that accompanies it. A magazine like Interrace is needed now in this century.
I did not know of the death threats. Another person from the interracial community said something different. She and Gabe Groz broke up. I don't know if its the death threats or something I don't know about.
I had read that someone did post a death threat toward Candy Mills because of Interrace magazine. I am sorry that she and her husband broke up.
It should be needed but, sadly there is no one who could like Candy and Gabe did. Wished there was a couple like them today.
There are couples around in this country. But, it is because of this country's issues with the interracial lifestyle that there won't be a magazine like Interrace. However, there are those interracial couples in Europe. Perhaps there is a magazine there. I know there are interracial dating sites in the U.K. especially since London leads in that area. I think a foreign influence would be possible, if not helpful.
e version I am not familiar with Interrace magazine, but found these links based on this discussion. http://www.interracetoday.com http://interrace.wordpress.com/ Apparently the magazine has been on Wordpress for awhile, and has now changed it's name to Interrace Today, and has an independent website. Those of you who supported the original magazine may be interestested in supporting this effort/contributing to it. I haven't read there, but will later today.
Serious question... because I'm a lottle stupid. Why is there such a pressing need for publications that promote IR relationships?
It's not about promotion. It is about awareness, support, interest, belonging and letting the world know that relationships like these do exist. Like this site and others like it online. On the internet, anything goes. But, unlike the net, a publication can be an intimate experience like when one reads a publication about other views and interests. For me, Interrace magazine was one of those intimate experiences because it showed me that it is all right to date/marry a person of another race and to expect the challenges that come to interracial couples of either combination.
Why Why Why Because there are young people who enter into IR relationships, and because of family pressure/beliefs, friend/peer pressure, or local racial pressure are reluctant, and positive publications that discuss the pros and cons honestly, with input from successful couples, not to mention the rich history of IR relationships, controversy, legal victories. It empowers young couples to follow their heart, and gives them a place to get real information, get some questions answered, and know that they are not the "only" ones out here. That's my guess :smt114
