You know what really pisses me off? Every day, when I am in my car, I see these cars with stickers on them "Support our Troops" and I could just puke when I see them on gas guzzling SUV's or other big cars. Why do people think slapping a sticker on your car is actually supporting anyone? Is it to appease ones conscience? Does anyone know where the money for buying these stickers goes? Does it actually end up in some financial fund for soldiers and their families? And along the same lines, how do you feel we are dealing with the realities of the Iraq war? If you wouldn't know one could think the US is not at war and has lost close to 3000 soldiers already... I mean the news? T.O. killing himself or not? Some Senator sending nasty emails to a kid and for the billionth time is the housing bubble going to burst or not....
It's a sad state of our society. I hear there are people who go around stealing those damm magnets off people's car's like it's nothing. Frankly I'd be very loathe to even put one on. I worry about our troops but hell it's hard to do anything else really when your just trying to stay afloat yourself.
Personally, I don't agree with the Iraq war. This is because I know what is actually happening on the ground over there. I also have a cousin currently serving there. He tells me that our president and his spineless, inept administration are blatantly lying to us about the war. As if no one knew already! Yet there are Americans who are stupid enough to support Dubya and his imperialist agenda. All supposedly in the name of national security. Conservatives make me want to vomit. As for the punk ass cowards who put stickers on their vehicles. These are the people who more than likely support the war, but are too chickenshyt to actually join up and fight in the war. I would make it mandatory for all Americans who support Bush and his war, to serve at least two tours on the ground in Iraq. I guarantee they'd change their tunes real quick. The stickers are mostly a fad, remember that Americans love to jump on bandwagons, in fact, it's that bandwagon mentality that allowed this jackass to get us into this war.
Bush can burn in hell for all I care. I knew in 2000 this man would lead us to this disaster but people are too blind to see what the truth is. The vibes he gave off back then were too irritating for me to even vote for his ass.
I do not even want to go into the topic of the Iraq War and the "War On Terror". It literally makes me want to hate America, even though i probably should not. Dumbya and Dumbsfeld have screwed up the whole thing and are the main reasons why America is the most hated country in the world. Yet it amazes me how some buffoons continue to support the Bush Administration and its pathetic efforts. In my opinion, they have done more harm than good and yet, come election time, these idiotic Floridians(especially the Northerners) will carry their crusty asses to the polls and vote for all these stupid, pathetic, totalitarianist pieces of shit. And now they want to shift the whole thing on Bill Clinton!!!
You all are too funny... I didn't think this post would take off into Bush Bashing (not that I oppose, I can't stand him and his war mongers either).
I don't understand what the big deal is with being upset if someone has a Support Our Troops magnet on their vehicle.. jeez.. I have thought of getting one. Why? because I want us in the war? Hell NO. I am no happier about our troops being over there than anyone else. I can't stand Bush either, nor did I vote for him. However, I know people who have children that are fighting this war. They signed up for the armed services because they want to be there for our country. They didn't chose to pick this war to fight, but they are there for our country any way. As I hear of the random killings of our soldiers, I think of the parents who pray every day that it isn't their children that become one of those statistics. If I decided to put one of those SUPPORT OUR TROOPS magnets on my vehicle, it will be for those parents that might just drive up behind me, to give them support as they deal with all the fears of possibly losing their loved one. NOT to support an idiot to chose to send our troops over there.. someone whose children will never be over there ... but the real flesh and blood ones who are affected.
There is a song that hit me about this very subject. I tear up at the end with the patriotism every time I hear it. I've got a bright red sticker on the back of my car Says United States Marines And yesterday a lady in a mini-van held up a middle finger at me Does she think she knows what I stand for Or the things that I believe Just by looking at a sticker for the U.S. Marines On the bumper of my SUV See, my brother Chris, he's been in for more than 14 years now Our dad was in the Navy during Vietnam Did his duty then he got out And my grandpa earned his purple heart On the beach of Normandy That's why I've got a sticker for the U.S. Marines On the bumper of my SUV But that doesn't mean that I want war I'm not Republican or Democrat But I've gone all around this crazy world Just to try and better understand Yes, I do have questions I get to ask them because I'm free That's why I've got a sticker for the U.S. Marines On the bumper of my SUV 'Cause I've been to Hiroshima And I've been to the DMZ I've walked on the sand in Baghdad Still don't have all of the answers I need But I guess I wanna know where she's been Before she judges and gestures to me 'Cause she don't like my sticker for the U.S. Marines On the bumper of my SUV So I hope that lady in her mini-van Turns on her radio and hears this from me As she picks up her kids from their private school And drives home safely on our city streets Or to the building where her church group meets Yeah, that's why I've got a sticker for the U.S. Marines On the bumper of my SUV
Indeed. They are the same type who have "Baby on board" stickers in the car, but then sit there smoking with the windows done up while said baby breathes it all in. Pathetic losers the lot of them.
How many times are we gonna get into these "I hate Bush" threads? 99% of the members go on a free-for-all of bashing...manages to insult & chastize anyone who doesn't hate him, including anyone who may be neutral...then the other 1% may chime in here and there and the thread stays at the top of the forum for weeks and weeks and weeks because the argument on one side either swells to the size of the Titanic, or the two sides continue indefinitely. This is enough deja vu for a lifetime. I do have to wonder about the bumper stickers, though. Interesting concerns raised about that.
Hi QSassy, thanks for your post. I'd like to clarify something, I definitely support the US troops and feel for them. I know they didn't choose and pick to go to war... don't even get me started on the "make up" of the US troops (who joins and why, that in itself is a very sad story). My point with the bumper stickers is to point out the bigots, the ones driving a Hummer, yuppies who are so short sighted that they think a sticker is doing their "duty". Don't get me wrong, I don't stop my life and live in guilt every day because young people are being killed every day but what good is a sticker? If one really supports the troops go to Veteran's meetings, donate to veterans funds and send emails and care packages to the troops, when doing that be humble about it and don't brag. But DON'T appease your conscience with a friggin sticker. That good old saying action speaks louder than words holds true more than ever. PEACE
It's fine by me (and should be with everyone else) that you would support the troops overseas because you want a loved one to make it back home safetly, however, most people who slap these bumper stickers onto the back of their cars seem to believe that they are showing the world their 'Proud American Patriotism.' And, what about the folks who place bumper stickers onto the back of their cars exclaiming the opposite kind of message? (Down with Duh-bya, War is Slavery, etc., whatever)
