Those of you who have had successful experience with investing. Maybe you can tell me what's the best way to go these uncertain days. I have a few grand to work with.

With the FDIC raising the limits to 250,000... CD's are a safe bet. The best one available is ING aka Orange. I think the rate on a 8 month CD is 4.50% on 24 month CD.

I have (3) $1,000 CD's at a higher rate, its gone down since but my rate is locked in at 5.25% from ING Direct.

If you want to mess around with stocks Charles Swab or ScottTrade are good places to start.

US Savings BONDS are also a good investment if you want to put money towards retirement.

Money Market Funds are good long term investments still because the market will go up and down...

    Good Luck

Thanks a lot Dj4monie. I'll check out Suze. I like money sites for women. There is another site I like www.msmoney.com, which gives a couple of phone #s to call if you're choosing a financial advisor to help you invest.

The safest place right now is in your mattress.

No, but seriously, I love municipal bonds. You have to do a little homework and compare their rate of returns vs. other investments (muni's are tax exempt) but they offer a lot of good selections.
