As far as I know, there are only a few styles of r&b, and they are:

    Contemporary
    Pop
    Hip-Hop
    Classic
    Neo

and, from listening to the music all of my life, believe that all of these different styles have lyrics that range from love, to hate, pain, joy, sadness, lust, confusion, betrayal, friendship, etc. (hence the name "Rhythm and Blues" to describe the entire genre altogether)

and, a big up to ya on your career, Nilan. You too, Genuine. With your ambition, easy-going demeanor, and positive spirits, the both of you should go pretty far in your career endeavors...

and, creating your own reality starts within the mind, just like absolutely everything that exists on earth because, in order to gain, achieve, and make things happen in your life, they have to happen internally FIRST, then externally...

finally, what's so surprising about young black males being in computer fields? We LOVE computers. Didn't you know that?

    :p

You love comp also? Why didn't you share your interests with us, was it because Nilan said "what is your hobby Seychelles, and all the other pretty girls on here " and you don't feel like a pretty girl? :D

    Why I do IT

In Toronto, I haven't met that many BM or black people for that matter in IT, though my last housemate, a BM, just happened to be a programmer like me. Also, at the last company where I worked --- which seemed very classist --- many BM including myself worked in IT and were the most technologically literate.

My passion for computers began in my late childhood and has continued ever since. Also, it came from my strength in math, which I studied in university because it helps with general problem-solving and logical analytical thinking.

But Nilan hit the hammer on the nail! The main reason why I love programming is because I use both my creative and analytical sides to create a useful solutions to people's problems. Also, IT represents a way that a lot of blacks can escape poverty and inequality.

Yet, I feel that IT people are increasingly becoming commodities, very much like the tools they use and/or create. So, I think if black people truly want to survive and prosper in this field, they need to parlay their skills into a business so that they get a bigger share of continuous profits, rather than a fixed salary. Otherwise, they're going to be outsourced or forced to underbid.

    Just my $0.02.

I totally agree with your last comment! Thanks for the compliments!

It's great that the Internet can connect likeminded people like Nilan, you, Seychelles and I with each other.

You all have provided some of the most intelligent dialog that I've heard in a little while. Let's keep it going!

Good luck, but I'm sure that you won't need it

I'm rooting for you, but I'm sure that you won't need it. Either way expect the best, but prepare for the worst. Like you said, while you waiting, look for something just as good, if not better.

You and I share similar situations. I get courted by these "recruiters" all the time, but none have really done anything to grow my career in the right direction. So, I do for myself what they can't do for me well: self-promotion. Almost a week ago, I posted a short self-profile (not resume) on an online ad board and in less than 12 hours, I got 2 replies. 2 more replies came in the last 2 days.

Besides, networking is the best way to get work. Remember that 80% of available jobs don't get advertised (i.e. they are filled before you even hear about them) and 40% of employees get filled through internal referrals.

The lesson is don't put all your faith into one method of job hunting, company or job.

Nice posts ! And thanks for enlightening me :)
Genuine, interesting thought. I was thinking this too one day, about the people in IT "going to be outsourced or forced to underbid", as many people study IT because it is in demand on the job market.

Anyway, more than anything just wanted to say how nice it is to see your passion and ambition and that you take yourselves seriously ! That can only be a good thing and lead to a positive outcome.

I agree on DC and NY, but I live in Mass and don't fully share your asessment. Extreme western mass the Berkshires is great, but not central mass, parts of bosotn are okay, but parts are bad too(don't forget the violent bus riots of the 70s took place here)

    Thanks, Seychelles!

It's long overdue, but thanks Seychelles! It's good to know that some people recognize what I'm doing to improve my life.

i think this is the website to share why you date WW exclusively, as that is the point of www.whitewomenblackmen.com

also, as this is an open forum, one can also talk about or should have the right to talk about why they dont date Black women without being censored by a troll

so speak on yall speak on

Exactly. If at all you'd say so, say it once and be done. Bringing up black women all the time is very idiotic and repetitive.

If I can go on certain boards on the net and read about "tired black men," brothas who are broke, weak, cheaters, don't support their kids, date white women, are "self-haters," on the DL, on and on, I personally don't see why people here can't talk about black women if they choose to. Some BW are so "curious" as to why some brothas date IR, here it is on the real straight no chaser. If people don't like it, they don't have to read it.

And if you're a "different" kind of BW who isn't stereotypical (all sistas swear they're "different"), prove it and go out and make a Black man happy today instead of constantly testing the poor man and you'll be one less that some brothas are speaking on.

thank you Karma, that is what I mean. On the Mindkandy website, on Blackplanet, on bwwm sites they are always running down black men (the ones who date IR and the ones who dont) and yet, we cant talk about black women here??

    Interesting

Well, Tucker, Black men are not entitled to their opinions like BW and WM are. Especially us uppity ones who can make sentences. We should be lucky to breathe the same air as those perfect people.

I see what you guys are saying but we do not need to constantly talk about those things. Its just not worth it. First things first, we know that white men will always try at every opportunity to trash the black man but is that really our portion? Nope. If it concerns you, you'd talk about it. If it does not, you'd move on with your life and do what you please not worrying what the white man is thinking. I am not ignorant; i know that there are very irritating black women out there but if we keep blaming each other and pointing the finger, what difference does that make? None at all.

diamond, can you tell us what we can eat, how to dress, when to go to the bathroom as well? i know BM are the lowest on food chain and we arent smart enough to do anything right and need white men and black women to tell us what to do, so we are listening now!!

Well, Cris, at least I see what you mean, since you're NOT being one-sided and playing the blame game back-and-forth like the black men and the black women who troll this site constantly do up in here , and yet, still wonder why one 'always hates the other' so much and won't stop talking about it on this site and that site. Maybe it's because too many black folks are still so stuck in their slave mentality until they can't stop obsessing over it, and can't seem to get over it, or crying about it to one another back-and-forth like they do in here!

Is it just me, or is this site full of victims now?

I could've sworn that this was whitewomenblackmen.com and not blackwomenandblackmenconstantlyarguewithandblameeachother.com.
