Both had solid moments and some weakness, enjoyed this debate better

    What stands out
    For Obama
    - he hammered him on 47 %
-also the comment about Libya issue , misquoting the prez hurts Romney

    For Romney
-he hammered Obama about, we don't have to settle for this record, America is better than the last 4 yr record
-also the fast and furious comment was a score for him

Overall I am not sure who won but will say Obama did stop the bleeding for dems.

Great debate. Loved Obama's energy. He really brought his A game.

Obama was much better this time, he still needs to talk about his vision for the future.

It is important to all the people who make their livings in coal mines and on oil rigs who are wanting to fight to use their skills to take care of their families.

Those industries need to be scaled back. The burning of fossil fuels is bad for our air quality, climate temperatures, and requires that we get into bed with a host of unsavory characters who do not have the best interest of the United States in hand.

Contrary to rumor, there isn't enough domestic oil to meet the needs of this country. We hit our peak of our oil production in the early 1970s. Moving on to renewable energy sources may cause displacement, but there is no choice. We can't keep burning coal like we're stuck in some Dickensian novel.

Tonight I was reminded of why I've never been a big fan of the town hall style debate.

I don't think it helped either candidate. Neither candidate did a great job of actually answering the questions being asked. They both just made talking points that were near the same subject without actually answering the questions.

    Ugh. This debate sucked.

Agreed, I don't think that these debates will have a lasting impact on how people vote.

I understand the importance of protecting the earth but we also need to find some way not to destroy the economy for people who make their livings on oil rigs and in the mine fields. I also don't think natural gas is the answer. Just my opinion.

I agree and disagree. Losing those jobs would be bad, but doing what they do to the environment is bad, too.

Unfortunately, the electric cars that are available and the Smart cars and all that are losing big time money for the car manufacturers who are making them, as they have to sell them for about 1/2 of the cost to make them.

We need to find different answers to our energy issues and to our dependence on oil, whether foreign or domestic.

I agree. Especially judging from comments random people make on the articles about the election and the fact-checking articles after the debates.

The Democrats predominantly think their candidate won and the Republicans predominantly think their candidate won.

I think most people just see what they want to see and don't look deeper because they've already made up their minds.

I think that Obama should have hammered him a bit more on the issue of Women's health. That is a lose-lose argument for a Republican candidate.

    Four more years.

Romney must be confused tonight. Told to shut up by a woman and called out by a black man!

Great debate! Probably the best presidential debate I've ever witnessed. Both candidates were on top of their game. It is rare that you have candidates evenly matched. In most debates, one is good and the other is bad.

I think Romney won the arguments on the economy and women in the workplace. He was great at calling out the economic issues from the past 4 years and being able to call out his hiring practices of women while Massachusetts Governor was good.

Obama won the discussion on Libya and illegal immigration. He was able to turn the Libya attack from Romney into an emotional moment. I think on illegal immigration Obama was able distinguish himself as a champion for their rights.

Both candidates failed on the gun control question. Romney got into societal issues and how we need to create good family culture. Obama started talking about education and how schools somehow reduce violence from automatic weapons. But that was about 80 minutes into the debate so I'm sure they were just tired by then.

Both candidates did great on the question about "what is the most common misconception about you that the other candidate puts in attack ads?" I think they were able to refute the attack ads. That is why debates are good, you cut through the noise that they bombard you with in television ads and you can see the candidates for who they are.

    DEBATE RESULTS: DRAW

I completely agree. I think immigration is fine as long as it is done legally. I think most illegal aliens will believe that Obama will give them the best chance at getting citizenship. Romney's counter argument was that Obama said that four years ago and did nothing...even when he had both the house and senate super majority for his first 2 years.

I do think the debate was a draw.

However, I was extremely displeased with how the moderator handled the debate in general and especially when the question of Libya came up and Obama claimed to have called it a terrorist attack in the Rose Garden the next day (he did not) and when Romney tried to call him on it, the moderator shutting Romney down was not cool. Not only did she show her bias there, but by interrupting, she allowed the President a free pass to not answering the question.

    Completely uncool.

But whatever. Like I said, most peoples' minds are made up and they're going to see what they're going to see and this debate, in particular, won't change any minds as I think they both were strong and weak pretty equally.

Actually, no not really. That's what it appears to be, not what it really is.

    http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2012/10/16/breaking-cnn-poll-obama-edges-romney-in-debate/

It doesn't even matter who wins anyway because these economic conditions are the new norm for the world and we're unable to get out of it. That's why I'm not voting.

And someone else who doesn't like Obama would infer that he looks like a douche.

    Really, wow!

I completely agree. The President also stood up and approached the middle several times during Romney's two minutes effectively cutting him down to one minute.

They should come up with a rule that if you interrupt during the other candidate's time that time will be taken off your rebuttal.

But you're right...people have made up their minds. I'm getting really tired of undecided voters saying I need more specifics from the candidates. These guys are spouting off as many things as they can in two minutes. Go to their websites, look at their plans, and make a choice.
