Yeah, that's unfortunate. They had a big tech boom over there, but the industry's not doing the same as it was a year or two ago. Who knows, tho. Maybe they'll bounce back.

I had a job offer there (N. Ireland) with a tech (telecom) company about 7 or 8 yrs ago and turned it down only because I wasn't gutsy enough to move. It turned out to be a good decision as the company almost went belly up. It's a lovely place nonetheless, I would still consider moving there.

I guess it depends on what source you are looking at.
The IMF has qatar as number one. The world bank has luxembourg as number one. The cia has Liechtenstein as number one. But they all agree that the usa is not number one.

The Republic of Ireland not Northern Ireland.

The Republic of Ireland is the richer country.

Northern Ireland is part of the UK, poor and occupied by the British Crown.

North Ireland is one of the richer regions of the U.K.
Of course this is largely due to outside subventions.

The Republic of Ireland has a much higher per capita richness than the U.K. or France. Largely generated by overseas multinationals.

Luxembourg is often number 1 but a lot of its wealth is generated by workers resident in neighbouring ountries.
