I saw on good morning america that there is a growing trend of stay at home dads because women are making more money and getting power positions and because of the economy. The report talked to a couple that were doing it. she was a doctor and he stayed at home. they discussed surface issues and then talked to counselors and as you know the report was not that indepth because they have other things to get into. anyway would you men love to be stay at home dads and would you women love to have a stay at home dad ? how long would you do it ? why would you do it ? how would you look at your man if he brought it up to you that he wanted to be a stay at home dad ? how would you view your man as a stay at home dad ? the report stated that it was a status symbol for women to have a stay at home dad like the days of old when men had trophy wives that were stay at home moms. what do you think ?
My initial male ego reaction would be for the Men to grow some balls...ha sorry lol. Its something I could never do unless my Wife was a millionaire.
yeah I felt the same way but when I had a child I changed my whole perspective. I could until she become a teenager. My woman dont have to be a millionaire but do ok. If I had to choose between being a stay at home dad and being a CEO and my wife is a CEO I would choose being a stay at home dad. Fuck that. Im at home. hearing daddy come play with me always kills me. I love it. I would just have to learn how to cook
well this economy and women is just an underlying problem that has been here for a while. Women have been paid less than men for a long time. What men are starting to realize is how bad this policy is. You fire the people making more because they cost you more. In this economy, it is the men that are having more of an issue being employed. You see women becoming the bread winners but the truth is they can't afford what the man can in lots of cases. In this modern time for the average family, it takes two paychecks to raise a family. That being said, I could not be a stay at home dad. boredom is hell to me. I'd want to contribute some way to society.
yeah, for me when they hit 7th grade or 8th grade then they can handle themselves more independently. thus no need for a stay at home. maybe a part time home or go ahead fulltime. nevertheless they would need you just as much because of the who am I stage.
angel...boring it certainly is not....!!! it's challenging, rewarding, exhausting, mentally and emotionally draining and wonderful. there are a few fathers at my kids school who are stay at home dads & they love it, and not ashamed to admit it.
To stay at home and raise the children is still very endervalued. It is accepted for women, but nearly unthinkable for men. I also would have a problem just to stay at home. Too long I was teached that a person is only valuable if one brings money at home. I have seen so many times, how bad husbands treated their wives, just because she didn't earn money herself and he had to support her and the kids alone. People many times don't understand how important it is that one person is at home. We see the results every day-bored, drug addicted, criminal kids, grew up without any perspectives and self-respect on the streets. Parents work the whole day, they are outburned in the evening, everything is stressy- there is simply not enough energy for both, kids and job. If a man decides to stay at home is for me a big sign of responsibility and strength. I see couples, who share their time. He takes care for a few years, afterwards she is running that job. It depends on the salary of each and the chances of career.
great take. the problem in the beginning some men didnt appreciate the stay at home mom. now that the feminist movement as gone thru now everyone sees the repurcussions of it. I would love to be a stay at home dad if i had a good wife who made a good check. people have to be mature to appreciate each other and the roles they play
I would love to! I already do it partly...I took a nightshift job just so that I'm able to watch my kids during the day.
Agreed. I know couple of Mr. Mom who stay at home rather than push and shove in corporate America. They left their fantastic job to spend time with young ones at home.
I do it because we dont want our child in day care, yet my wife desires to work part time-teaching at University 2 days a week.
I believe that whichever parent is staying home is giving the biggest contribution to society. Those children ARE society. Raise an intelligent, critical thinker vs. serial killer/narcissist and take note of the impact on society. I admire and applaud stay at home dads, not only do they clearly value their children, they are also open minded and forward thinking men. I LOOOOOOVE that! If my man wants to stay home with the munchkins, I'll be thrilled. :smt045
