Tavis Smiley changes his tune on Obama's health care

Radio/TV host Tavis Smiley (on March 21) seemed to back the president's latest apparent looming victory on health care, an apparent break from his past statement on Obama's plan.

"I think the president deserves great respect for having the courage to take this issue on," Smiley told NBC's "Meet The Press." "Seven presidents have tried here before and they have all failed. I think he gets credit for taking this on."

Smiley, who just a few months ago called the president's looming win on health care "small change," now says that "it takes too long to phase this in."

"Thirty-two more Americans are covered [and] that's a good thing," the frequent critic of Obama said. "There is so much more that this bill should have been."

Smiley appeared on "Meet the Press" following a summit on how Obama is failing to address issues relative to the black community the day before. The president has declined to attend any of Smiley's events.

I have not heard any of his critiques of the prez. I dont oppose people having opposing views but not get ugly. it is ok to change views

 

The presidency of Barack Obama has been so damamging on tavis. You see the guy is really pro black(there is nothing wrong with that.) but black people are not the only ones here. You have to get along with everyone. He was able to attack bush often because bush wasn't protected and cherished as Obama is. You see he thought he could do the same with Obama but that can't be done with black people. Suddenly the people he fought so hard for were countering his views because of the love affair with barack obama. You probably won't ever see a harash interview betwen Tavis and Barack because that would pretty much be the end of his career. He'd turn off so many of his viewers from a harash interview.

 

At first I did get into *some* of his material...

I do have to opine that....after myriad commentaries he's made that have just...well....rubbed me the wrong way, any scraps of respect I ever had for him has been thrown out the window.:roll:
