This coming sequestration that will begin next Friday (1 March) is threatening cuts in social programs and the defense department estimated at a half trillion dollars each. We cannot even taking care of our own country yet we are sending troops and hardware to Africa, giving Egypt F-16 fighters and hundreds of abram tanks, giving bribe money (billions) to Pakistan, sending money in foreign aid to nations that hate us, and it goes on and on. The politicians in Washington will not lose their jobs or get their pay cut next week. It will be the workers who make this country work who will get screwed again. We are being played, the tax payers.

I care. I am already not paid enough for the work I do as is. Now, I am expected to do the same amount of work for 80% pay. $400-500 less i will bring home every 2 weeks...

I guess when it doesn't affect you, news like this doesn't seem like such a big deal. When it's YOUR livelihood, and takes food off YOUR table, that's when it finally matters. I have a live at home college kid and two little ones to support now on my own...bills don't stop, gas prices continue to rise, cost of food too...

Then you have these crooked politicians, pilfering monies from the very things they claim to care about, taking their lavish vacations and then coming back to argue and point fingers at who's at fault...while the middle class continues to suffers, the poor have been suffering...

    Just disgusts me.

I'm mixed on this one. I agree with you on this point. The government waste too much damn money. It need to be cut. The tax code need to be reformed. The waste in programs that we do not need have to be eliminated. As long as special interest organizations have a hand in preventing us from making the changes we need, we will still be slaves to them and this country will continue to suffer. We are competing with the world and we are very inefficent in competing with it. We have to get our financial house in order.

Ms. Cherok, the politicians who live in their gated communities, send their kids to private school (you better not), have lavish retirement plans (you better not), the best health care in the nations (take what they give you) are blind to what is happening beyond their protected zones. We (the working class) need to put them on notice. No more taking us for granted. Either they fix the problems we face as a nation or we vote their asses out of office. We need to put the pressure on them to do their jobs. Regardless of political parties they need to realize that they work for us and not we who work for them. Perhaps a new kind of revolution in how we the voters being unified need to emerge to scare the hell out of these politicians who feel they can divide us to keep us fighting each other rather than them.

everyone (conservatives) love screaming cut cut cut but dont cut they pet projects. Example: I told a conservative they need to cut high school football and he shitted on himself . he whined about well, footb all is a tradition and it gives kids things to do after school.

but he is willing to cut jobs (teachers) and crowd kids in a classroom and get rid of pre-kindergarten programs saying we cant afford em...they (parents) need to pay out their own pocket.

my point is why ? education is one of the foundations of economy and reduces crime. football....? really?

It's typical, cut the other guy, just do not cut mine. Like, do it in their backyard, just not in mine. Well, since this thing (the sequester) is going to happen as of this Friday. Here in Virginia alone nearly 200,000 people working directly and indirectly (including myself) with the defense industry will be affected. To my surprise a number of people have not a clue how this will affect them.

Cherokee I hear you babe. I feep the same way but the problem is 1. Too many people play the as long as it doesnt happen to me who cares game
    2. Everyone is either too dumb or too wrapped up in dumb shit to realize this affects ALL of us. No industry will be untouched. Also Im a big believer in if we cut food programs do they think people will lay down and starve or cause chaos.
They should manage money way better than they have but then again if it dont affect them they wont do shit. They have zero incentive to care and even if we vpte them out these dudes are paid already. Theyre a bunch of millionaires on the take

We are losing four workers. They got the bad news this morning. They (management) say they will be asked to come back after the budget cutting the company is anticipating. I do not believe them. One of the losers is a black woman who is an ardent (vocal) Obama supporter. I think she was targeted for termination.

Interesting. So they laid off four people without knowing for sure whats gonna happen? I feel bad for them though. Job loss is definitely not easy.

I do not think this was the right move they have made. There are plenty of areas in the company that can be scaled back or eliminated. I personally know where there is waste. But, I can assure you those of us left will be keeping an eye on management. Those who lost their jobs will have some support and representation to get their jobs back. We are a family at work and will do what we can to help our friends.

That's usually how it works in high profile jobs. The people who put in the ground work & mid management have a far better clue on what areas are a waste & need to be eliminated than upper management. Ambitious upper management types usually have a tendency to create all kinds of dog & pony positions/departments that usually don't add to workplace efficiency in order to impress their higher ups in an attempt to show their "management" & "leadership" skills for promotion/career elevation consideration purposes. Plenty of creating or cutting of positions/departments going on in the office where I work due to someone trying to make their mark, especially when long standing bigwigs leave for other opportunities or retire and new blood either comes in from somewhere else or someone gets promoted from within.

You hit the head of the nail precisely. I usually do not agree with you on things, but what you have stated here is the reason I have little trust in upper management. Those of us at the lower rung of the ladder feel that they use our talents and skills, BUT, when the crunch time comes it is "THEY" who only cover their asses and protect themselves.

I want to thank all who responed to this thread. Yesterday Hampton Roads military sites have been notified that a coming BRAC (base closings) is being contemplated for 2015. How this will affect me I do not know, BUT, I'm not going to wait for the axe to fall. I'm in the process of looking into three new directions as just in cases. Again, thanks, you guys are the greatest here.
