Anyone here familiar with the controversey over the coming Fairness Doctrine that will censor conservative talk radio?
I don't know all of the facts all about it but my conservative friends are upset because it will mean that both liberal and conservative veiwpoints must be shared with the listeners. I'm not sure I like it. I wouldn't want to listen to conservative viewpoints on my favorite liberal shows. When I want the conservative viewpoint I seek it out. I don't want it in my face. On the same token I was once a conservative who didn't seek out liberal viewpoints (until one day when I did and I rapidly became more liberal). Some people won't take the time to educate themselves on the other point of view but that doesn't mean it's right to put it in their face.
I just lived through 8 years of the Right cramming their bullshit down my throat, so I'm all for the Doctrine. Wait, does this also hold for shows like Maddow and Olbermann? :smt107
I try to see all sides of an issue. What I do not like is to have government determine what I hear, what I read and what I think. If we ever head down that dangerous road, we will lose this country.
I hate to tell you this, but this has been happening for years now. It's only become apparent this past 8.
They better not mess with Maddow and Olbermann. Rachel Maddow probably couldn't do a conservative segment without disolving into fits of laughter. Olbermann might have a stroke.
Nearly half of Americans (47%) believe the government should require all radio and television stations to offer equal amounts of conservative and liberal political commentary, but they draw the line at imposing that same requirement on the Internet. Thirty-nine percent (39%) say leave radio and TV alone, too. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/general_politics/47_favor_government_mandated_political_balance_on_radio_tv
