With so few a posts to your credit, I can already see you just might be a rising star here. I can't disagree with any of what you just said.

Let me add this, even though I am a Registered Republican, it should be noted, that it is only due to the fact that it's mainly by way of "Fiscal Republican." I too support our troops, but not the mission, and oddly enough, your comment makes complete sense to me. IMO, The Bush Administration's Legacy on foriegn policy, specifically, (The Iraq Obsession), should go down as one of the biggest mistakes in American Presidential History.

I don't think anyone needs to be in the government to realise that there is something wrong here. Even if there was no torture going on, the fact that behind closed doors people are being detained without charge, without trial, and apparently without reliable intelligence regarding their guilt - considering how many of them were released without charge in the past few years - is on its own a gross abuse of state power. Even more so when this state happens to be a global superpower.

The fact that it has not been stopped means that it can happen again. Using any excuse regarding the interests of their citizens, a state agency can pick nameless persons and arbitrarily label them 'terrorists', detain them, torture them, and even kill them behind closed doors. No one will know. Do we know the names of the 'suicides' in Guantanamo? No, they were classified 'secret'. Such freedoms to the state are features of totalitarian regimes.

This definition does not indicate that the terms totalitarianism, or 'one world order' in your words, and communism are interchangeable. 'Communism' became a propagandist masking term for the single-party regimes of eastern europe and USSR. The original term indicates a utopian classless society, which was definitely not the reality in USSR. It also indicates collective ownership of the means of production, as mentioned in the definition obove, i.e. the elimination of private business, which is definitely not what is happening in the USA today. So you cannot say that the USA is anywhere close to becoming 'communist'. However it is very close to being totalitarian.

    good to be welcomed!

    Very informative,

But why would The government just choose certain random individuals for detention, over others, if there wasn't some kind of probable cause? Ok, the system is far from perfect, and I give you that, but wouldn't there be a bigger outcry, if there was any evidence of the U.S. just picking up anybody they deemed suspect, and holding them against their will? If this is what you're suggesting is happening, (and it sounds like you may be), then that would be the reason why I used the term communism.

    Just curious.
    Thanks

First, let me say, petty, you reopened my eyes to the sacrifice that our service men and women make. We...I talk about this war, or any war with so much ease because we are not there. I know that I personally dont have the strength it takes to be a soldier and do what they do, and I personally dont know what I would do if my life depended on torturing someone for information that could mean the difference between life and death for myself and company. So, IT IS hypocritcal for me to hold these men and women to a higher standard than I could think to meet myself.

That being said, thats why I think cost should never be a factor when it comes to care and benefits the our servicemen and women recieve. They put their lives on the line so that we have the freedom to sit in front of computers and judge their morality.

Rinnaye, the outcry has been there from the world, but we, the US refuse to listen. Why do you think the US has received so little international support for this war? And hell, we have given up our own rights for this war without a peep, so why would we care about the rights of some "muslims who probably had something to do with 9/11?"

The bush administration (with the help of the sheep in congress) passed the military commissions act in 2006. In that act there was a little clause the president wanted in there, which was the right to suspend habeus corpus.

Whats habeus corpus? Habeus Corpus protects us from inprisonment without trial, charge, or defense unless in times of rebellion or invasion. Its the backbone of the bill of rights and we threw it away because who wanted to be labeled as unamerican or not supporting the president, the war, or the troops?

Which is why I say you cant be a "fiscal" republican. You can only be a republican. Some of their ideas are just (I wish abortions didnt exist) and there always has to be the other side of the coin. But republicans ask you to pay a heavy price for those ideas. They take advantage of your committment to your ideas and use them to forward their agendas. (Dont get me wrong, the democrats do it too, but at considerable less cost to you and I.) I have heard some say that voting republican is whats best for them and their family. But sometimes you have to look long term.

My grandma once told me, "when you dine with the devil, he's really is having you for dinner."

I really love a happy ending. Don't you?

From unlikely allies, to hugs, (of which I do plan to collect). This is only possible when you put WW & BM in the same room together. The Love will always prevail. :smt057

Where's the throwing up smiley when you need one.

Sooooo, totally kidding. It's nice to see that we can all have heavy "discussions" and still kiss and make up later. Yay!!

    Haha,

It's also nice to know you have a great sense of humor.

IMO, the ladies of this forum, are the reason why this place is as pleasant as it is, and without you all, there would not be much of a reason for us fellas to even be here. I will always work to resolve any, and all issues, no matter how small or large, in a diplomatic fashion, with those in whom I consider to be the most valuable treasures of this community.

    Sincerely

    Rinnaye, you rock! :D

It's nice to interact with the fellas on this board, too. Most of the time, it brings a smile on my face. Other times, I diplomatically stay away from responding.

It's a great group of people who interact here. I know that's the reason I wanted to join this board and that's what keeps me addicted to checking it several times a day. :D

Everyone has an opinion, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I ain't got beef because of it

    :p

All that I was trying to inject, was a sense of "empathy," for the people that are responsible for providing everyone, from the platoon leader all the way up to the batallion commander, with AS MUCH information as possible, to prevent unnecessary casualties, during operations. Lets face it, people within the intel community are faced with doing a dirty job. They do everything we were told NOT to do. They spy, eavesdrop, spread lies, bully, and on occasion, use force to extract whatever they need, to ensure that our brothers, sisters, fathers, and mothers, have as much of an edge in the field, so that they come home alive, instead of in a bodybag.

But, as you can imagine, you do run into the chance of torturing someone who was innocent. "As seen on TV," sometimes our guys arrest people, based upon what another native told them. Whether or not that person has a fair trial, to prove his or her innocence, is unknown to me. Whether or not that person would be tortured, is also an unknown. But a situation like that, is a product of allowing torture to persist...

which is why there is such debate going on about the subject...

    Thanks for that.

I happen to think you're a great poster as well.

Yes, I do agree, this forum is quite a unique place indeed. But I'll be the first to say, I'm not perfect, to which I have also regretfully made a few mistakes while being here. But hey, can't we all just get along anyways? :)

You are welcome. And thanks for the kind words. :) A few of us have made some mistakes while here. But, I think it's great that people can let bygones be bygones. No one is perfect.

But, I am glad this forum exists. It's a great place! :D

You are right Rinnayes! and I think all this ‘loving’ railroaded the torture train!

Although it sounds like the wise jellybird and gallant pettyofficer both need a hug...Bookworm you’re closer!

    Hi Sweetie,

You needn't worry about these two stand up gentlemen, in whom both are of very special qualities. I'm pretty confident the topic in this thread will do nothing to derail the camaraderie we all here share as brothers.

Now as for you dear heart, I couldn't agree with you more. Give me love, over torture anyday. Never really was much of a masochist in the first place.

Another thread hijacked by love. :)
