http://www.politicsdaily.com/2010/0...mark-about-obama-and-also-sinks-in/2#comments i'm glad people are being outed like this only way to combat racism is for it to be put into the spotlight, and made known people can't claim ignorance about the issue then I mean they can, but then you'd know what kind of person they were
There racism in both parties, the dems try to hide it a little better. Everyone have to realize that America is getting multicultural and people have to get use to it.
This is tough. :/ I understand exactly what Reid was saying and the context in which he was saying it. I, too, was happy that Obama was "a light-skinned black with no Negro dialect" because I knew he'd have a better chance. Frankly, for me, it's all about the dialect. Darkness of skin doesn't matter at all, but how one speaks matters A LOT.
are we going to have another discussion on articulate african-americans again 'speak like me, a white anglo-saxon protestant; dont speak like you would where people like you come from'
We don't have to discuss it, but yes, certain American dialects are more easily understood by the majority of people. Many people will judge the intelligence of a person based on how they speak. My oldest son, much like my husband, easily switches to the dialect of those around him. If he begins to speak with a thick southern accent after being around friends who speak that way I correct him. I care about how he is perceived by others.
the discussion does not have to be just about african americans...at this point it could/can cross many racial lines...speaking proper english in america has lost it's importance...i correct my very fair haired son as well when he and his buddies get together...not just him but the whole group...what i want to know is do they know how to say it correctly? if they do then i will let them have fun with the conversation in their own way but if it is an opportunity to teach/correct i jump on it... sidenote: the majority of my son's friends are african american, mixed and/or hispanic...well rounded group...
The Reid thing is just a smokescreen since Obama accepted the apology. The GOP with their record or racism is just wanting to slam Obama. They never elected a Black for congressman in nearly ten years. Steele on the other hand could not tell Limbaugh to shut up.
