The Tea Party, the debt ceiling, and white Southern extremism

I disagree with that post because this entire thing wasn't based on the wants of one group for the benefit of one group ie the Republicans. The only winners were members of the Oligarchy. A reduction in spending without revenue production? Who's gonna take the hit? The two party system is dead. This is longer a struggle between blacks and whites or liberals and conservatives. It's a fight to have the right to support ourselves. They are literally taxing us to death. No more than ever we HAVE to recognize that we are truly one Republic and the only way we survive is together. Our enemy isn't tryanny or oppression it's the threat of annilihation through benefiting corporate interest over that of the people. Social security is not an entitlement, Medicare is not an entitlement, unemployment is not an entitlement. These are social contracts we made with the US government every time we earned a paycheck or employed others to work for us. The fact the spineless jellyfish who are suppose to work for the interest of the people dare say that shows us all we need to know. They see us seperate themselves yet they make the decisions that affect our lives but no their own. They've divided us amongst each other and now more than ever need to come together.
The stories of great American patriotism that once inspired us as children were accomlished when the American people made a choice together. So now is the time for us to choose not allow them to divide us any longer but focus on the principals and promise this great nation was founded on.

One nation under God indivisable with liberty and justice for all.

Paniro, there's the idealistic worldview vs. the reality of the world. Ideally, we simply don't want politics and race be equated all the time. Reality speak, race is embedded in our politics and in our history. Remember what I've told you about that component of the brain that triggers judgment? This is a good example.

It's corporate personhood which is doing the damage, but what has driven the Tea Party is southern conservatism. They'd never have gotten so fired up in the first place to form the Tea Party if Obama was white.

The tea party is just a group the GOP uses to make it seem like they're working for "the people" much like how the democrats use minorities and women to push other corporate agendas like the healthcare bill. Seems like everything being passed does little for the American people but a lot for corporate interests.

 

I think the Republicans lost control. The social issue Tea Party crap was good for making noise and pulling votes, so the Pubs went with it. But when Boehner gets prayed for on the House floor by those buffoons, it's pretty damned clear they've lost control of the fringe element of the Republican party.

BOTH parties are owned by corporations. I don't know what anyone else thinks, but I'm looking for a third party to support. Yes, I know we have a two party system, but other nations don't and they manage fine. We have to start somewhere

 

The problem is that the deck is stacked against third parties. Think about how we elect members of Congress: each district votes for their own representative and the individual who receives the most votes wins the seat.

Many of the multiparty systems are proportional representation systems where seats are allocated based on the percentage of votes that each party gets.

If, say, a Green Party candidate runs here and gets 15% of the vote (pretty ambitious, probably), they get nothing. If the Green Party gets 15% of the vote in a PR system, they'd get roughly 15% of the seats in the legislature.

As things stand, a vote for a third party candidate in our system is more or less wasted - ask the 2000 Nader voters if they are still pleased with their choice.
