At one point, you hear "he has a gun" and no gun was produced. My god LAPD needs to be put out of business. It has become a gang full of thugs. Nothing more.

Cops can't tell the difference between a beretta and a bottle of wild turkey anymore?

Of course no one will go to jail over this...probably won't even lose his gig

U won't see change and consequence until cops start capping off the rich and powerful like kanye west or Hillary Clinton

Watch. It's gonna happen. In the '70s cops were big time targets for vigilantes.
That shit is gonna come back.

When everyone knows the worst that's gonna happen is a few LAPD might be suspended with pay and be back on the job by September, the system is beyond broken.

Calling them a city supported gang with salaries is 100%.

They don't hold themselves accountable...that leaves the citizens with little alternative.

All settlement money awarded to victims and families should come from the police pension and retirement fund. That'll straighten their asses out with a quickness.

Make THEM pay for their OWN murders and beatings.

Cops are out of control these days. I didn't pay taxes so they can abuse their power.

It already started in NY, didn't it?

I watched an NBC story on this shooting, and it looks likely that not much is going to happen to the cop, because they were responding to a robbery call, and this wasn't a passive "homeless man", the guy called "AFRICA" was a crack addict who dove into his tent when they tried to arrest him, and then was throwing haymakers, while his 'accomplice' grabbed the cops baton to start swinging on them. Their stun guns didn't appear to work, not sure how the gun was introduced, 2 cops were wearing body cams, so there is more footage. This appears more complicated than only, 'a cop shot an unarmed homeless man dead'.

The police let it escalate in my opinon.
They had two police officers to take on one woman and at the same time one policer officer to take on one guy. We all know men are much harder to control physically. Mind you there was at least 5 cops... I saw the other two doing nothing. I just want to point out that I am talking about when the one officer is beating on the homeless man and not at the very beginning of the video that I posted. Had the other two cops interfered... I doubt it would have escalated this far.

We hae agreed on this before, but the reality is, America is a nation of Insurance. So it won't ever happen.

If it were to, hypothetically, the way police respond would definitely change dramatically. I think while some lives might be saved, many will be taken by criminals. Because cops will not respond to any calls of crimes UNLESS the victim can assure them the criminal has a weapon.

For example, say a burglar is in your house, so you call the cops - they ask you is the guy armed? You tell them, IDK, and they tell you, "well find out and get back to us. If he is, we will come but there is a chance we may end up shooting the armed suspect. Do you assume the risk and liability, so we don't have to?"

    What do you reply?

Hard to call it without seeing the full video. If he felt that he was being unlawfully arrested, I don't blame him for fighting back, I would of done the same.

No you should take it up with court and then sue. That would be the wrong action. That being said I highly doubt that this man was mentally stable. I don't think it is hard to call. Just look at the video. It is basically one officer on top of the homeless man.

Dude had been in a mental hospital for ten years, he was obviously not right in the head. However with five officers they should be able to restrain dude.

Courts have proved to be unreliable time after time after time again. I'm all about that action boss.

He wasn't mentally stable because he was a hard-core crack addict. I saw a pic of of him and he could pass for tyrone biggums, no kidding.

I agree with you, you don't ever fight an armed cop or cops, even if you feel you've been slighted. That's nuts. You will lose. Have your day in court.

    This is the point.

Why so much rushing and anxiety by the cops?? Slow things down, find the suspect and restrain him. How many homeless people kill cops with their bare hands, or have firearms stashed in their belongings???

I'll never excuse a cop for being too quick on the trigger. He never should have had his gun out IMO.

When you break into someone's house you take your own life in your hands and I have very little sympathy for what happens next.

But cops investigating the report of a robbery and breaking up a homeless encampment in downtown L.A.( which was the real crime the media isn't reporting, homeless people being an embarrassment and an eyesore in downtown L.A.)which ends with a homeless man being shot and killed, there's no excuse for that.

I've mentioned before taking a relative to doctor visits at theVA Hospital in D.C., the mental health care unit there has at least one armed guard at the nurse's desk because sometimes mentally ill, unmedicated vets go after their doctors or other patients.

These guards NEVER use armed force. (I personally don't know of any case where a vet brought a weapon into the VA Mental Health clinic.) They know going in if there's any kind of altercation, it's going to be old school hand to hand and wrestling the patient on the ground until another officer or staffer can help cuff him.

If a suspect in the situation in L.A. goes for your gun, crush him in the face with your fist and get some assistance from a fellow officer on scene.

The fact these officers lost control so quickly of the situation tells me they're either inexperienced or incompetent.

I do agree on the rush to arrest, its hard to watch when that happens in cases.... I will say though, if you have ever been around a hostile person, they don't want to listen and it gets dicey pretty quick, especially when they are impaired. I've seen fights escalate professionally and it goes zero to 60 real fast, and best to get out of the way.

I don't think he had his gun out, it was holstered and the guy went for it, per the pic. I don't know if the other cops had theirs out before that. Btw, many homeless do carry knife weapons to defend against other homeless people.

I watched a demo cop video that showed a man exiting a car. The civilian filming it, sees no gun, captures no gun, while the suspect is then shot.
They filmed it from the cops side... there was a gun clear as day and the cop draws his weapon. They did this to show that angles often tell a different story.
You couldn't pay me enough to be a cop in general and you couldn't pay me enough to be a black male while in a scuffle with cops. Both very dangerous positions.
