I'm very sorry E4Ever,I thought things would improve a bit. You thinks since Merkel is in charge she would bring more jobs to Germany. Sorry to say this but there is got to be some eccomomic nationalism since companies swipe jobs aways from regualar people and shift from country to country in search for more cheaper labor. Only if China has a real union would it work.

As for US being a democracy, Dark king is right....it aint...in fact, Democracy is not mentioned in constitution. The founding fathers knew what Mob rule would mean so they left it out...its supposed to be a republic democracy but its obviously a oligarchy like TDK

 

constitutional republic though I find it hard to believe when you have less than 1000 votes making the decision. It was never meant to be a republic. It was suppose to be what it is. an oligarchy.

The world is not fair and will never be fair

 

Wealth inequality exists for a number of different reasons- some fair and some unfair. But America is still one of the best countries for the opportunity to become wealthy. We see this all the time with celebrities, actors, athletes. People who come from poverty and become millionaires. This does not exist in many other countries around the world. In many countries, you are born poor and have no hope of growth.

I see many kids who grow up in tough circumstances complain about the inequality and give up. But you see others who set out to change their path by going to college to become doctors & lawyers. I still think we play a huge part of our success in life.

 

True, what you say, complaining about life situation won't bring you anywhere. Connections and flexibility is most important for success. But, if the inequality in a country is too big, it gets uncomfortable. All people should have enough money/possibility to make money to live a decent life otherwise the streets get dangerous. Becoming a millionaire is in my eyes not a goal..it's not healthy, neither for the grown-ups nor for their kids,, imo. There is always the same amount of Money around, it just depends on in which pocket. And if one guy is pretty rich, a lot of others will suffer

 

your friend is an idiot. He cannot be successful in his job, he has no empathy .. so- there is no doubt, he wants to diss you down. A poor attitude, a big lack of confidence, a shitty character, sorry to say so. But maybe he recognizes, too, that he wouldn't have this position without his grandmas help, a thought and fact that scratches at his small EGO.

The best advice I can give, especially for women, is, look for connections, connections,connections, wherever you are, talk to people...that is cash money

Agreed to an extent. However, when it gets to a point where people are not able to afford higher education, medical care, a roof over their heads and food for their bellies, that is an issue. Especially when their country of residence is supposed to be the wealthiest and / or most powerful.

Minimum wage has not done a good job with keeping up with inflation, and is currently JUST enough to keep the average American above the poverty level (in some cases). Everybody can not get paid millions for throwing a sphere through a circle for a living, can not come up with the new app that revolutionizes the way we use our phones, can not become a doctor or lawyer. Society needs normal... average... every day people as well, and those people have the same basic human needs that Lebron James, Mark Zuckerberg and Oprah have. In this country, there is no reason that someone who works 40 hours per week should have to sacrifice paying rent so they can eat.

These are all inherent results of a wholly capitalist society. Market driven health care makes me sick to my stomach.

 

So true. The problem with most people in this country is they see themselves as the next CEO not a worker so theyre ok with mistreatment with employees because they don't believe it will be them for long.

Almost need some wage control rather that fairer tax system

Back in the 1970s, the average CEO made a much lower multiple of what the average wage earner made, like under 60x. Now its freaky nauseating, something over 400x. I've said it before and say it again:
1. Nixon going to China screwed the American Middle Class and Union leverage
2. Ross Perot saying NAFTA was detrimental to U.S. was less a detriment but
still don't see how the poor/middle class benefitted.

Another thing that a lot of people don't realize is that when companies like McDonald's and Wal-Mart don't pay their employees enough to live off of, we foot the bill for the money that they should be making in the way of public assistance. Meanwhile CEOs take home millions every single year without fail.

When I worked at Wal-Mart years ago (late 90s), my starting pay was about $6 an hour, maybe a bit more. I was in college full-time and living with my parents but even then, I knew that there was no way in hell any person could even begin to make ends meet on that kind of pay.

 

It truly is sad especially with less and less chances to move up.

 

Unfortunately, minimum wage will never be at an acceptable level. If you were to make the minimum wage $15/hour then a ton of people would lose their jobs and unemployment would shoot through the roof. This is why having an education is so critically important.

I'm not arguing that our country does not have huge gaps between the rich and the poor. My point is that we all have an opportunity to make money here. In some countries, you have absolutely no hope. There is no mobility between classes. Look at where Lebron James and Oprah started and where they are at now. That wouldn't happen in many other countries.

 

McDonald's employs 1.8 million people and serves 68 million people daily. WalMart employs over 2.2 million people. These two companies have employed 4 million people combined. It's easy to point the finger at them as bad, but the honest reality is that they provide a service that millions of people want and have put money in pockets of millions of people. So while you may complain about the minimum wage they provide, there are tons of people happy to have a job and proudly go to work there everyday.

 

Just because they provide a service that people want doesn't mean that those companies can't afford to pay them more. Those companies make billions a year and there's no reason why they can't give their employees a wage that matches the cost of living in this country.

And yes, Wal-Mart has put money in the pockets of millions people but for a lot of them, it's table scraps compared to what they could be making. I was proud to work there until I realized that I was busting my ass to make someone else a millionaire with no benefit to myself, "low low prices" be damned. Hell, even $10.50 an hour would be better than what Wal-Mart is paying now, as well as being more in line with the cost of living in 2013 as opposed to 1993.

Plus, paying employees a higher wage has other benefits, too. Lower turnover. Motivation to do your job and do it well. Happier employees in general. After all, employees are who the customers interact with when they come in the store, not shareholders or executives and the better off they are, the better off the company is.

 

Dude a few select people who make it doesnt account for the fact that this country is amongst the worst in social mobility. Education is soon goung to mean very little when corporations can easily bring people from other countries over for lesser wages. Why pay an American engineer 90k when an Indian one will cost only 30k plus airfare. You're living in the past. The wealthy are qyickly destroying this so called capitalist country and is quickly bringing us back to feudalism.
