Wesley/Cuba/Taye Getting "IR Privileges"?

I've noticed that some black actors in Hollywood who are involved with white/asian women in their real life...tend to be involved in similar IR romances in their roles.

    1. Wesley Snipes: He has made controversial comments in the press in recent years about how black actresses are not that great and his desire not to work with them. He has dated white and asian women and has a particular love for asian women and asian culture (he spends alot of time in China and Japan, loves asian food, has mastered several martial arts forms of fighting, and is married to an asian woman).

In many of his roles he has romantic relationships with white and asian actresses. Jungle Fever, 7 Seconds, The Detonator, U.S. Marshals, One Night Stand, etc. Even in Blade Trinity Jessica Biel was cast, not a black actress. He almost ALWAYS has a white women or asian woman in his films to kiss/fuck. Is it just coincidence or do they cast these women knowing he likes them, OR is it he has such stature and power over casting that he can TELL them, "I want a white chick" and they say, OK Wesley, you got it?

    2. Cuba Gooding Jr.: He has a white wife. His roles usually have him with a white woman. End Game, Shadow Boxer, etc. Is it the same with him?

    3. Taye Diggs: Another IR brotha. His roles almost always have white or asian women as his love interest. I doubt he has Cuba Gooding Jr. (an Oscar winner) or Wesley Snipes (once one of the biggest black actors in Hollywood next to Denzel and Will Smith) type clout in the industry but maybe the casting directors show him what kinds of actresses they have chosen and he always picks the white ones, or maybe he does a read through of the lines in the script with the 5 or so actresses they've narrowed it down to and he always picks the one he likes (like..the hot white chick).

I ask this becuase I am an aspiring actor who lives in NYC and might be moving to Los Angeles in the next year or two and I'd like to be at the level where I can be known for always having a hot white actress as my love interest in my films....

I think it's very much true especially with these cats. I say it's all good. Hopefully there will be more in the future.

You may be onto something with this thread here. My vote is the same as OmahaBoy's. I guess we all have our individual tastes, whether some people like it or not, eh?

Interesting correlation but there is some fault in it.

I think the trend you have hit on more accurately is put a good actor in a shit movie and hope that it will at least draw black audiences for DVD rentals and sales.

Wesley Snipes has little or no control of who is cast opposite him especially when those films fall outside of the control of his production company. In Blade Trinity-Jessica Biel- was not his choice but more so due to the fact that the character was written as a white woman who replaces her father -A white man- in blade's life. the other movies were B movie action flicks that the production company hoped when make some coin by getting Snipes to play the roles. The roles were written by the writer for a white actors.

Cuba Gooding has of late been willing to take anything as of late and falls into this character of taking a medicore part and hoping that some good comes of it. The only part he has done so far where you see him return form was Shadow boxer and again, his part was more than likely written for a white actor but when he entered the Director, producers or what have you probably that it would stir up a bit of controversy by adding him to the mix.
Also it was not mention the other roles such as fighting temptation where he starred opposite a black woman.

Taye Diggs TV show where he played a lawyer adopting a little girl had some IR in it but the seris finale cliff hanger was his choice between his model girlfriend played by EVA from America's Top Model and Toni Braxton.

Do i think that real life relationships shape their perceptions and willingness to except certian roles? Yes.

Do i think they have control of who plays opposite them in certain movies? no.

They're actors, at the end of the day they are supposed to portray a character and all the facets of that charcter. Not relive their day to day on screen.

Thinking about this again, I would say that what you posted sums it up, Boll. This is Hollywood we are talking about after all.

In terms of "ir priveledges" none of the Blade films are worth mentioning.

There wasn't any IR in any of the Blade films, were they? I didn't see the last one.

There was a little IR in the first actually but all of it WM/BW. For instance in the opening club scene in pt. 1 the biker vampire is getting a blow job, when the woman lifts her head she's revealed to be a light skinned BW. Then the female lead's (N'Bushe Wright) boyfriend was a WM and it was also implied
that Frost was banging Blade's mother (Sanaa Lathan).

Apparently Blade is the only vampire in cinematic history to have absolutely no interest in sex whatsoever.

This is mainly due to the roots of the character. Blade is a character filled with hatred of Vampires and himself. In the movies they focused on that intensity more so because that's what Blade is all about. ASS kicking and control. Blade, in the movies, has lived his life trying to control his emotions all of his emotions so that he would not fall into blood lust.

So his control would extend to his emotions and the relationships in his life.

There is a romance for Blade in 2 as you see him slowly becoming attracted to the Vampire lords daughter.

Oh yeah, SardonicGenie, you may hear people's varying opinion about the last in the Blade trilogy's but in my opinion it sucked. I mean really. If you are a die hard Blade fan, then the movie is servicable, but if you have seen the first two then you've seen the last.

There are some interesting things about it:
Blade is stronger, he goes on the run from humans who see him as a mass murder but they really fell short on everything else.

    i liked B2 better than B1.

Yeah, I figure his anger and intensity would be the "official" reason for his being a eunuch. But I can't help but notice that no matter how full of rage and obsessed a WM character is...somehow he's never quite so angry that he can't hook up with the female lead at some point. Even if briefly.

The second movie showed that he at least "notices" women. But of course the screenwriter decided to kill her and burn her up in the sun before anything could happen.

So when I heard Jessica Biel was in the third installment, I knew not to expect anything.

Can we really call it "privileges?" Wesly, Cuba, and Taye are woefully underused actors in Hollywood and in the case Mr. Snipes and perhaps Taye....each should probably have some Academy Award nominations to their credit by now. Hollywood accepts them when it comes to playing chracters who are involved IR but each has payed dearly for it.

The media already established the fact that tay ,wesley and cuba are in IR marriages, so i doubt ppl get shocked when they see such characters with white women.

Now Will Smith , Denzel and other black actors involved with BLACK women in real life hardly ever play interracial roles(with ww) because black women (and white men)would get upset, and THAT would indicate a plummet in movie sales.

Its all about the dough guys. And besides why is it a PRIVILAGE to be in a movie with a white woman?....I mean, i like white women too, but come on guys,,,,thats some fucked up shit

And Pey, no offence bud. But you strike me as a guy who would rather take pics of himself and some hooter girls and claim it to be him and his wifye(in your mind, no less) than actually going out there and getting a real WOMAN of your own......very childish, dont you think??. I dont see the reason why you HAVE to put white women on a pedestal so consistently and unnecessarily..Its' sickening and no white woman in a right state of mind would wish to be seen as nothing more than a trophy, to be displayed to your "boys".....which is the impression i get from your posts, and the pictures you present of your so called girlfreinds

But thats aight cuz, keep doing your thang.

Amen. Now that, whether anyone likes it or not, is inferiority complex.

Privilege: A special advantage, immunity, permission, right, or benefit granted to or enjoyed by an individual, class, or caste.

If I look at the havoc and the endless discussions that arise whenever a black male actor dares to appear on screen with a non-black love interest, and if I compare that to the deafening silence which occurs whenever a black woman or a white man to the same damn thing, then I'm pretty sure that one can talk about "having the privilege", but unfortunately, it's not black men or white women who have it. :(

But how is acting in movies with white women an advantage, immunity, permission, rght or benefit granted to someone or a class? I just find it ridiculously sycophantic that anyone would consider that an advantage. I see where you're coming from Silver and believe me, i agree with what you are saying but since when did white womn become property that we seek permission to have? Isn't that silly?

No, you are too preoccupied with your fear that someone might imply that white women are something "better" and therefore an advantage or privilege to have to see where I'm coming from.

The color of the women is irrelevant for the privilege I'm talking about. The privilege I'm talking about is the privilege not to be hindered to make personal choices and the privilege not to be persecuted, punished or insulted for your choices.

    Example:

Americans have the freedom to travel to any place they want to at any time they want to. There are many nationalities who can't enjoy the same freedoms. Therefore, one can say that Americans are privileged when it comes to travelling. But that doesn't mean that all countries Americans might travel to are automatically the best thing since sliced bread or that if Americans travel to these countries they become American property or similar nonesense.
