Ohhh, so they're just waking up to that fact  ..... Okay seriously, why is this? And is it surprising that this article is presented in a very obsequious, philandering and blatantly sympathetic view towards black women. Not that i'm particularly offended, but you know fully well that when it comes to black men, the number of statistics and negative adjectives will be seemingly unending. Listen, i've said time and time again that people should feel free to date or marry whomever they want and that does not stop at black women. What i really detest more than anything is attempting to justify your reasons for doing so with false notions such as the availability (or lack thereof) of black men or the eternal nonsensical excuse of black men dating white women. That might hold some weight if 90% of black men were dating white women, which isn't true.
I think given what's gone on in the media with alot of high profile brotha's lately this is just another dig at us and will only serve to create more division in the black community.
It's a good article, even though I might disagree on the reasoning behind why black women would date outside the race. Incarceration of black men was mentioned. Or the general lack of brothas enrolling at the college level. Even brothas who are more likely than not to be unemployed. I accept that these statistics are fair and consistent. But that doesn't mean that black women must live exclusively by them. I liked the examples of various black women like Shar Jackson and Venus Williams who date white men. But I've mentioned in this blog I think that blacks in general are always going to be minorities wherever we go in this country. How many blacks are in Tennis in general? It would stand to reason that Venus would choose a white dude. Going the opposite direction, the few brothas in Tennis (James Blake for one) are with white women. Alot of times, the issue is a lack of options. Which is why I'm glad, as it was stated, that sistahs who climb the corporate ladder aren't sticking to the old-school mentality of finding a good black man. As a black woman said in so many words in another IR forum that I contribute, "a black man has no real responsibility to a black woman as a significant other." Now i don't agree with Ms. Evia Moore's notion that brothas don't want to see a "dark chocolate sister laying around their swimming pool." Yes, white racism has psychologically damaged black people for years into thinking that black isn't beautiful. But every black man has a warm place in his heart for his beautiful black sistah. I for one love the look and the body of a black woman. I think more should be done as black men to express that. Finally, director Tim Alexander hit the nail on the head. Black people ARE sick of each other. Alot of it, to me, seems to be the result of bad parenting due to the overt racism that our relatives had to endure in order to raise us. For others, there were no parents of which to speak. So those things can take a toll on blacks entering adult hood. With all those statistics in hand, wouldn't it be better for black women to encourage and nurture the psychy of black men in order to make us more the man that they would like to see? Not cultural molding, but expanding our personalities and positive characteristics so that we can deal with the real deep-seeded issue of American racist brainwashing. That would seem like the best way for black men and women to find appreciation amongst one another.
My sister recently married a white guy, and she's the happiest i've ever seen her. He's a really good guy, and his race is basically irrelevant whenever i'm around him. If anything, the only thing that weirds me out about him is his odd personality and sense of humor lol.
