white and black because I'm mixed.

Just because I got some black blood doesnt mean Im black.

Just because I got some white blood doesnt mean Im white

You guys make this confusing when its not.

Mixed, meaning multi-racial, means I am not black, and I am not white.

This OP is pro black and only focuses on black issues regarding biracial kids and only sees through the prism of race.

It is not my fault that I choose not to succumb to that.

Like Loki said, this isnt the 60's, there is a large group of people like me out there, and we don't want to be associated with blacks OR whites. we want to belong to our own growing group, and build it. Why would I care about black issues when I'm not even black? Should I care because a random person walking down the street thinks I'm black? Please.

Loki is right, this is all irrelevant because it doesnt matter what other people say, especially the ones who may classify you.

I dont choose sidelines based on what someone thinks, I am proud to be biracial and only care about my group and its survival. I have no problem with whites or blacks, but I refuse to be claimed by either just because I have some white, and some black blood.

In all honestly Flame, I dont think you that bright...there is not much point in arguing with you. Pettyofficerj had a good question in another thread when he said why does anyone bother replying too you..

This is taking up too much of my time so I am gonna bow out..and just say I am proud African, who believes Black people are good people, but we have to realise we cant keep on blaming white people for everything that goes wrong in out community. The comes a time when we have to look at ourselves and take responsibilty. A lot my threads look at the problems we have in the Black community.Self pity wont get us anywhere..

    Thats all.

All that shit sounds good...BUT...you didn't say you don't identify with being WHITE...just Black.

Stop being so protective of white people Sambo...they sure as hell don't mind blaming everything on Black people.

All us Black people ever do is look at ourselves...it's you Uncle Toms that pretend we don't have problems with white racists and their lying media.

my company is changing over from having some of the people that work for us from 1099 to W-4...the human resources company that we went with has a section on ethnic group...these were all the choices:
first it asks if you are hispanic? yes or no

    if not hispanic or latino?
    white
    asian
    two or more races
    native hawaiian or pacific islander
    black or african american
    american indian or alaska native

i just thought it was interesting and relevant that it now offers the two or more races...that could be lots of combinations

If I happen to have a son, he will be mixed. I'd consider him Black. I will teach him about the ills of society, especially here in America. I'll teach him about my culture and show him what his mother represents, but unfortunately, here, you're Black first and a man second. I'd show him that he can be great at anything he sets his mind to, teach him confidence and more importantly, how to treat women.

His father will teach him how to be a man and a Black man at that.

    +1.
Tropolis listen to this smart WW. My cousins have smillar mix like you... their White mama taught them exactly like IB....., despite that one of my cousin kept sayin' I am not black nor white stuff, but he had a wake up call in corporate America then in top notch grad school, despite him being light skin and at times racially ambigous everyone kept asking him "what are you? what's your back ground? are you brazillian? are you black?"
mofo now more militant black than five Blk panthers put together. lol. Mix is nuttin new to African community in the western hemisphere, we all mix in one form or another.. hell I am mix and others around me are mix but we go by our african gene.

    Thank you GZ.

As parents, we're responsible for their identities. If you show them a tug-of-war of racial check boxes, they will be confused. I mean in a perfect world (not America), you'd love for them to be both, but not in the good ole U.S. of A. My son can say I'm a Black __ (and my background), but he must put Black first.

dont appreciate being told end of debate
just saying this is the end doesnt make you right

i agree we have issues in the uk but i do believe its more even spread through all the different ethnicitys not just black men

the report that supplied the info for camorons speach as used in this report http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7509142.stm doesnt contain enough information for my liking. it only contains percentage of lone parent households. it doesnt say how many of the 2 parent households are second familys ( blended familys, step parent familys ) and it says nothing of weather or not the absent fathers are involved in thier childrens lifes. the black men in my friendship group who have children are all involved in there childrens lifes. 2 are lone parents, one has his child every weekend without fail and the others have them alternate week nights and weekends

i would like to see reports that include that data as basing opinion on the study here black men are indeed thrown under the bus, quite probebly unfairly

Oh my god, look at all the people who see it as a problem in Britain..
Its not some made up thing. Even Tony Sewell the director of creating a genius sees it as a problem in finding and naturing young black geniuses in Britain. He works for a charity, whats he got to gain from saying this is a problem in Britain? For goodness sake..

The Guardian is a broadsheet, its not some random tabloid. Its a well respected newspaper..

i read the guardian link, they just quoted what folks had said, didnt even bother with the research paper that david cameron used as the basis of his speach

the bbc link does use parts of the research but as i stated it focuses on weather a family has one or two parents living at home and says NOTHING about weather the none resident parent participates in the childs life

so while i know darn well we have problems in the uk ACCROSS THE BOARD OF ETNICITYS ill save condemnation of black fathers until they do broader reserch

Okay Robina..the condemnation is across the border, its a black issue..
The BBC is one of the most unbias media outlets, and they dont just publish anything..

    exerpt from the guardian

"Research into absent black fathers will be presented at a Babyfather Initiative forum at the Fathers Direct conference being held in central London.

The initiative aims to combat negative stereotypes of black fathers.

Barnardo's, which set it up, said many black men played significant roles in their children's lives but the reasons some did not needed to be examined."

see that many black fathers play a significant role

much better than going on reserch that says 59% of afro carribean parents live in one parent familys and saying we have big issues with black dads not being a father to thier kids
