    "you are my king"

    "my little white queen"

    i was my bf's "princess"

I don't know if it has been discussed here b4 or not, but why do black people always name their partners this way?

where does it come from? does it have any particular reason?

I do it subconsciously. I have called black women "black queens" and white women "ivory princesses." But to me, it's not just an expression. When you're truly in love, you mean it. Of course, all women like to be called "bad girls" or "naughty girls" on special occasions, lol!

because we are much more in touch with our emotions than most white males, i think and we are more expressive as a race.

latins and southern europeans are too... mi amor, mi corazon etc

Most of the time I usually do it as away of letting someone know that they are closer to me than others.
Most of the people close to me have some name that I have given them that I'll use as a way of saying "we're on good terms".

I like it when my man gives me a nickname... however I would not like it if he would call me his white princess or something like that... it's kinda creepy actually. Just like my black king, I don't know for me it just gives me a vibe of admiration that has more to do with the race than the person. Just me....

    Thanks for the replies !

I didn't know why black people use these terms of queen, king and princess, that I've never heard from white people, who use other words of affection. Wondering if it has any story/significance behind it.

whites in the US call their daughters and men call women princess, but many blacks use the royalty stuff because some miseducated afro american studies professors at universities were teaching that blacks in the US are descendants of kings and queens. even telling people they are descendants of Egyptian kings---when we came from west africa mostly and were spoils of wars and sold BY kings into slavery to europeans

I dated this one guy who was Hispanic who called me Cookie.

I almost wanted to die because he would say that all the time. Maybe he said my name 3 or 4 times. I think those royalty terms of endearment are cute. My step dad calls me Princess to support tuckers' statement.
But the ones related to food ie Muffin, Candy, Cookie, etc...... :smt011

I usually only get called Baby..
and I wondered if a lot of black men call you baby, so they don't ever say the wrong name..

Either way you slice it, pet names are just pet names, and nothing more, not to mention the fact that you don't have to be in a romantic relationship to be given one by somebody (like your father, mother, friend, etc.). Most of the time, they are terms of endearment, and I wouldn't take a pet name too seriously, depending on what it is.

You know that Arab is not a race, some blacks folks are Arabs. Is it so far fetched that blacks not all where kings and queens. The first pyramids are in the Sudan. Egypt is a colony of Kemite. Seems to me that folks just think that black history is just slavery.

OMG! QSSassy, I have wondered the SAME thing!

    I don't think it's a black man thing.. I think it's a PLAYER thing!!!

I dated a guy who used to call me "Babe" all the time... like "Ciao, Babe!" "Talk to you later, Babe!"
He NEVER said my name! Not in emails, not on the phone, not in person, not while chatting.. and not in bed!
So, I eventually mentioned it to him and he was shocked, because he claims that he had never noticed that he did this. After that he started using my name a bit more, which was nice. The first time he did was while chatting and he even commented on how much it made things much more personal. I was like.... duh!! But whether or not is was because he didn't want to use the wrong name, this fella had MAJOR intimacy issues, which might explain it!
