I'll start (sorry if I posted this in the wrong section) I like to 4-wheel my truck. I get alot lot of looks from doing it and some of my friends think I'm kinda of nuts for doing this but I really enjoy the hell out of it. I might be the only Black guy doing this where I live LOL. again whats is something you or your partner like doing as a couple

    hiking
    traveling

    Spare time? What's that?

When I can find some spare time, I like to design web sites and interactive multimedia things.
The same stuff I do at work without all of the boundaries of the corporate world.
I am fortunate in that I like my job.

Outside of that, art galleries and museums.

I've been working so many long days and then clean house all weekend that there hasn't been any spare time..

    but if I had some..

I like to travel to see friends..
    go to the beach
go to my timeshare in Palm Springs
    movies
    photography

night out dancing is always fun.. (and LONG overdue!)

Hey designer, i'm glad that you mentioned what you do for a living because i really have an interest in web designing and multimedia as well, but my current major is IST, and i don't want to change it because i'm about to graduate in a year, which would mean starting all over again of course. I don't know what to do. Any advice???

To be honest with you, web design is something you can learn on your own or by taking a few classes.
Of all of the people I know that do web design, they all got their degrees in something else. The ones that have degrees...

Some people will disagree but if you have the skills and knowledge to understand basic computer sciences, web design is not hard to pick up.

The big thing I see is just using it in creative ways to make things more accessible to people.
If you work in a corporate environment, they [mostly like the IT department] are going to tell you what you can and can not do. All of the creative stuff will get toss out the window because you're going to need to be consistent with all other departments. Am I getting off track???

    I would learn:
    Video and editing
    Flash
    XML
    Basic Networking
You don't need to know how to hand code BUT the more you understand html, php, asp, Action Scripts, java and such the more you'll be able to troubleshoot any problems that come up.

I don't know if I've answered your question but in the end my best advice is to do what you think is best.
One year away from a degree is a lot of work to pass up and it's always better to ADD to your knowledge base.....

Do I sound like a father or what????????????????

Thanks for all the great advice designer. I greatly appreciate it! So i should just go ahead and graduate with my degree in IST, and then just kind of add on to it with the web design afterwards?? I'm just starting with the html code, but i picked it up very, very quickly, and i'm learning to master it in less than a months time (and i do it manually as well), which is why i'm starting to think that it's something that i should pursue career wise. IT is okay, but it bores me sometimes, and i don't always pick up on it as fast. Another thing, should i just teach myself how to do web design, or should i take some classes and then learn Video and editing, Flash, XML, and networking?? I've already taken a networking class and passed it with an A grade, but it was a lot tougher than what my grade indicated. I'm learning about all of the security systems and things that go into networks now, but yeah, i'm learning about a lot of things at once, so that's great. Like you say, i should just keep adding on and adding on, and i'll really be in demand once i master everything.

Try it on your own first and if you are having trouble then sign up for a class.
A lot of this stuff I picked up but I've also taken many, many classes too!!!
Flash is supposed to be easy. It ain't! But you may pick it up with no problem.

Video and editing are really disciplines onto themselves because you must shoot good video before you add effects, graphics and basic edits so you need to have some understanding of video/film, lighting, sound, composition etc. I mean you really have to think about all of that stuff even on the simplest shoots.

It's a lot work but it is fun when you see it all come together.

I believe you can do it.

No, but seriously, you rather sound like a role model capable to give sound advice to the youngsters. [IMG]
