I've noticed a strange phenomenon that only happens here that I have to ask about and maybe point out. I feel that a lot of self branding happens here and I have to ask why. In posts a lot of members will self identify by race first and gender second. I understand the gender assignment when giving an opinion to provide some basis to see/understand where that particular posters opinion is coming from. What I do not understand is the racial assignment. True, this is a site that talks about dating between white and black. What I dont fully comprehend is why the hardlined alliance? Why not just say "as a man..." or "as a woman i think...."

A lot of posts her talk about racism and oppression and the negative feelings we have towards these actions and ideas. But in a way we are just as fixated on race as the people that are negative towards us. Am i making sense?

    Well -

Because being "Black" is an experience that can't be understood unless you are Black. That's like saying I know how a woman feels, which is IMPOSSIBLE.

Even if you KNOW Black people, marry and have children, you can not know fully on a 24/7 basis what it IS to be Black Man and the many things on our minds, the things we will not share with you, no matter how deeply we are in love with you.

That is why I, identify myself as "Black" even when nobody ask...

Yes, total sense. Many people claim not to be fixated on race but the very fact that they claim ww are like this, bm are like that, bw despised me etc. tells us otherwise. Is there an emoticon for a wry/dry expression?

LOL...come on buddy. Im black and i dont know whats on your mind. Unless there is a black telepathic manner of communication that i know not of...

I think most people simply will never in a trillion years know what we young black males have to endure all day and every day.

Good post, though I don't get why a bm would have things they won't share any more than another person.

you mean black american males? or black males in general?

I do understand your statement but I cant help but think of other black(and brown) people around the world that are undergoing far worse reality's that any ghetto in the united states could ever produce.

Please watch Onibus 174. it is about Brazilian street kids(who are mostly black). Super sad.
Please read A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier
an absorbing account by a young man who, as a boy of 12, gets swept up in Sierra Leone's civil war goes beyond even the best journalistic efforts in revealing the life and mind of a child abducted into the horrors of warfare.

What about the Middle East, Apartheid, actual slaves in america, etc etc.
We are very privileged today. So what if we arent represented in the media in the most positive sense, so what if older white and non white women might clutch gaudy purses on city streets?

Water is still free, we dont have to go kill for our beliefs, and we can eat when want, drive cars and own televisions. what more do you want? there's a WHOLE world outside of the US way of life that doesnt even get half of what you have access to.
