Will New York Mayor Resign

De Blasio, the Mayor of New York is under pressure to give up his position as mayor of that city. The police organizations, unions, and special interest groups want him gone. They are saying the Mayor has thrown the police under the bus and he does not have their confidence and that he needs to resign. Do you believe it's because of his association with Rev. Al Sharpton or the fact that his comments about counseling his bi-racial son to avoid a possible confrontation with police ticked them off?

He is an elected official...a few more people than the police got him there...I don't know if I care about the why...my opinion is that he should stay put...when the police are perfect then they can start asking for resignations until then they need to weed out the bad apples and get back to work ...stick together and snuff out the fools that think it's open season on police

He campaigned on ending racial profiling and reigning in the NYPD and got 73% of the vote in the general election. Why the fuck would he resign for doing what the voters put him office to do? If the NYPD wants to be insubordinate, we'll see how much they like it when the Feds step in.

I heard tonight on one of the pundit shows that they are trying to ratchet up the pressure on Di Blasio because they're fighting the administration in contract renewal talks. Any truth to this?

You know, they could totally overplay their hand if they go too far and lose more public support if they look insubordinate/insurrectionist. Civilian control of the military is a bedrock of this society. Disrespecting Barack is one thing - he's black. But disobeying a white elected official is another thing entirely. When the barracks are out of control, you're on a slippery slope towards the F bomb.

This is what happens when a white guy marries a black woman, has a black child then pledges to fix the nypd

All sorts of shit happens you never seen before

Again..anti brutality/corruption doesn't mean anti cop, it's just getting them to strive a bit higher than the norm

The good news is that Bratton and others are publicly condemning their actions

    That union leader is trash

Both. I don't see why he would resign. He isn't the first Mayor to have a run in with NYPD. He just has to weather it out. He still has the support of most of the people in NYC.

There have been many examples of the Mayor and council having issues with their Police Department. You just got to tough it out knowing that.

Good point. Most mayors in major cities have issues with police and fire, usually over pensions, pay, etc. You just have to stare them down.

And the press weighs in: http://www.nydailynews.com/opinion/jonathan-tasini-labor-reject-lynch-bitter-bile-article-1.2060012

It's amazing to me how many people want to turn this into an anti-cop movement. It's like ANY critique is anti-cop to people.

The Mayor f NYC says he told his son how to interact with 5-0 and not get his skull caved in and now he's the one responsible for two cops murdered by a deranged brotha looking for an excuse???

    GTFOH.

Really, how did the cops in NY expect people to react when a we ALL SAW a man choked to death for selling single cigs on the street and the asshole didn't even have to go to trial to defend his actions.

People marching in the street is the least of their problems.

It always amazes me how NYC on one hand is one of the most progressive and liberal cities in the world, and yet at the same time has this really virulent, autocratic right-wing streak among many of its White ethnics(Italians/Irish/Greek).

Dirty cops are the reason why those two officers got killed, not the Mayor.

Let's be accurate those two cops were killed because of lax gun laws in Maryland allowing a person with mental health issues to buy a gun from a pawn shop. I agree with everything else you said though. This is just another example of people acting on the belief "if it ain't happening to me it ain't happening"

Or they say, " This is someone else's problem. Not mine. And these things cannot and do and will not happen to me."

Do they have another thing coming. And when it does, it will hurt REAL bad.

    This.

I also appreciate andreboba's analysis about the undercurrent of intolerance and racism among many urban white ethnics. Chicago has similar issues among similar groups, just add the Polish to the list. And it's not by coincidence that in most urban areas, these ethnic groups make up the majority of the police and fire departments, as well as much of the public sector workforce.

As far as I know, unless you have been involuntarily committed to a psych facility, nothing shows on your background check

At least in pennsy anyway...this probably happens elsewhere as no one searches your medical records to see if you have a history of mental health issues (that would probably be too costly)

What even complicates matters further is that there's no annual or monthly psych eval for current gun owners, lol

You can be crazy as a fruit cup and not have your guns taken away
