In the wake of the deluge of gun violence lately, is it time to consider a repeal of the 2nd amendment, and replace it with a more sensible law?

There are real voices out there (in internet-land) who are floating this idea around. It will probably never happen, but do y'all think the idea should be entertained?

There usually are no changes to constitution, but the interpretations can change.
The 2nd Amendment clearly states that militia's, not citizens, have the right to bear arms. Two cases in 2008, and 2010 changed the supreme court's interpretation of the law. I can see 30 years from now, the interpretation completely changing.

No. People should have a right to protect. Besides, it's not like criminals will adhere to these laws and regulations.

Adam Lanza was mentally ill. This case is in the rarity, although atrocious.

Many legal scholars read that passage as stating when a person functions as a part of a local militia, only then do they have the right to bear arms.

The Founding Fathers never anticipated the implementation of a multi billion dollar federal military, which would negate the need for a 2nd Amendment.

The Founding Fathers didn't really believe in the concept of professional soldiers. That Amendment was also written in the era of single shot muskets.

Keep it. To take it away is just plain wrong and unfair to the majority that choose to be responsible with their weapons.

I think you all know my opinion on this one. Leave it the hell alone. In a world of wolves that prey on the weak. I rather be the wolfhound to defend against the wolves. Self defense is a human right. If you do not believe this ask the victims and their families. Threaten me and my family. You will be taken out one way or the another. Life or death, the choice is yours.

Now a gun is the equivalent of fertilizer, a box truck and racing fuel??

How many homemade bombs have killed people since 1995??
How many firearms have killed people over the same time frame??

Thinking that way is like saying how many cars have killed people as a result of drunk driving.

Or how many people have died from doctor's malpactrice.

Are we gonna ban cars, ban liquor, fire all doctors?

The point of the post I made with the OKC bombing picture is not about body count, but that there are other ways to kill a massive amount of people in a short time.

Take away guns.....mofos will just figure out a way to kill people. There have been massacres since the beginning of time.

All this talk about gun laws is just a knee jerk reaction...it's not solving anything.

Perhaps when bomb killings (like what is being used in the Middle East) is brought to this country for mass killings in our malls, ballparks, even on a packed street with people like Time Square, will americans realize that mass killings can come in many forms and cannot be stopped. Only then will these silly debates end. We must deal with the minds of these mass killers and the serial killers (like the D.C.Snipers) if we are ever the realize that a killer determine to kill, will kill no matter what we do. This has been going on since the dawn of time and will continue. Wake up people to the reality of history and life in general.

We have guys in the U.S. who know how to make bombs. I knew kids in HS who made pipe bombs for kicks to blow shit up in the woods.
But it's a reach to think the insanity of the ME will visit our shores and make gun violence seem irrelevant.

Even compared to most ME countries, our level of annual gun violence is still high.

Time will tell. It was once a reach to say that crazies would fly planes into buildings. Such restricted thinking will get us killed.
