I practice kung-fu. When I'm not in class, I have a morning and evening routine. Kung-fu is really hard, and I have to practice diligently to master it. But I need to work on my wind. Everybody in the school is smaller than me, and I usually end up chasing them around during sparring, and getting tired.

But the point of this thread is cardio. Cardio is great for endurance, and I need it. I'm going to work out a schedule for some running, and I will be taking a 4 week class on swimming on July 7th at my local YMWCA.

Is there anything you guys also do for cardio, and to build up thw wind? I need all I can get.

Sonny, swimming is fantastic and I did that before I moved here. Great job!

I like running (especially sprinting). Rollerblading is cool for something you can do for a long cardio session that isn't boring.

    Run/Walk

walk at a rapid pace for 3 minutes and then sprint for one

Do this over a distance of 3-4kms 5 times per week

Dont change the timing of the run/walk

Then once per week do a full run of about 5 kms...it will feel like you are floating

That reminds me of a friend of mine, whos husband had a conversation with her dad.

    Friends husband:
"come on --------, lets go to the gym"
    Friends dad:
    "why? is the TV broken"?

I nearly fell off the chair laughing, it was so funny, especially the dads face, he meant it!!!

Cardio just bores me... I play basketball, football, swim or mountain bike for my cardio. I cannot just 'run' without cops behind me. I do jump rope sometimes, as well.

Interval training, box jumping, flipping tires, wind sprints, running with weight behind you (sleds), jump roping, lots of stretching for added flexibility, 20-60-20...jog 20 yards, sprint 60 yards, jog 20 yards, touch the goal-line and repeat (or do 10 pushups/situps than repeat)...all very effective along with straight up jogging...which is a personal fave

If it broadens your mind and you consider your brain to be a muscle then I guess it counts. :)

Swimming trumps all other exercise. It works out your muscles and lungs completely. You also get immediate feedback on your performance because if you suck, you drown!
