We touched on this before but now Im experiencing something different out of it. Whitegirls that are "down" using the n-word being tolerated by some blacks. We know some brothas is cool with it if she is down...... Me its a no way ALWAYS! I will not respect her whether she down or not. My friend's ex(he wasnt a close friend but somebody I have met a few times over 3 yrs.) a whitegirl that was a down ass whitegirl use to say nigga alot but she got the john mayer like hood pass because she was down and dated black guys... She is with some white dude now, my cousin saw her the other day and was having a conversation and she had used the n-word in the conversation. She (my cousin) said she felt uncomfortable because now that she is with a white dude(who was there with her.) and didnt sound right. Because was one of those ones that was always cool with her saying it because she was "DOWN". Kind of woke her up too. because she said seeing that come out of her mouth while with her man next to her looked and sounded kind of racist. Im glad she saw that and no longer accepts that but she doesnt know how to tell her she feels uncomfortable with her using that word now, because she had been cool with her using it in the past.... I told her to tell her that she had a change of heart of her using that word (because they are friends.) But she is finding it difficult to put into words after allowing to go on for the year and a half they been friends. So wwbm.com world any thoughts, have you been in this situation, ect.

There are some things one just shouldn't do. That'd be one of them. Personally I'd like to be able to look my mother in the eye again, and I couldn't ever do that if I ever uttered that word. It's not how I was raised.

Agreed. I think the word should die. There's no reason for anyone to be using it, in my opinion. It's nothing but a negative word and it shouldn't be revered by anyone. To continue using it just perpetuates negativity all around. It should be out of everyone's vocabulary.

Problem is we have a generation of black kids (and others) who are off-springs of crack addicts. I've seen and heard a mother call her 2 or 3 year old son that.

I'm a "down" chick, but I couldn't ever fathom using it. You definitely sound like a racist or a dumbass. My cousin is half Rican and he uses it. Some might dispute that since Puerto Ricans have African ancestry, then it's okay. He doesn't look White, but he sure doesn't look White either. I don't think he should be using it.
I agree that it's confusing, especially to children, to hear black people using the term and then be told they absolutely should not. One of my son's friends tried to encourage him to refer to him with the n-word, telling him he doesn't mind and it's okay. I told him I'd wash his mouth out with soap if I ever heard that word pass his lips, regardless of who gave him permission to use it. His friend thinks I'm a hard ass, but that's just right up near the top of the 'words we don't use without getting our ass beat' list.
I think you have to be a person of low esteem to use, or want to be called that word. There is NO good meaning of the word for me. I hear them using it to one another in my 2nd grade class. I was told by a parent when I politely asked them to ask their child to refrain from using the word, that I was interfering with his cultural right to use the word. m.
It just seem to me to counteract so much work that has been layed down by earlier generations.. dont they cringe when kids and young adults use it? I think Rosa Parks would roll over in her grave.
