This is interesting. Due to strange occurrences in my life at the time, I went searching for and joined a Yahoo group, several years ago, about the supernatural. Long story short, a woman on there, claimed that Hell is not for humans. That all souls go into a type of purgatory to cleanse their souls after they die. Depending on how bad you were as a human would depend on how much cleansing the soul needed. She stated that Hell was only for demons. She may have been a crackpot for all I know, but I like that way of thinking regarding Heaven and Hell. :smt023

exactly pink. how can you even put pedophiles and gays/lesbians in the same basket? you cannot compare them. and yes i'm saying one is bad and the other is not. BEING GAY/LESBIAN/BI IS NOT BAD. and in my opinion anyone who thinks that are small minded, uneducated imbeciles. pedophiles strip a child of their innocence, their childhood. they leave them scarred for life. they take the trust that children have and abuse it. a child cannot fight an adult or stand up for themselves. they are vulnerable and easy prey for sick minded evil people. how can there be a comparison between being gay and being a pedophile?
You run into all sorts of theories on this subject Bookie, and I've heard some that made me raise my brows, and others that made me think. Dante's Inferno is similar to what you described, though it is very much hell, there are multiple circles and where you're sent depends on what you did. That idea really appeals to me as the agnostics and people who simply didn't believe in God, but were 'good' people, are in the first circle and it's not the unpleasant hell that most envision, it's neutral. Just seems more fair to me than punishing people who didn't harm anyone or do 'bad things' while alive. It's a really interesting book if you haven't read it.
