You might be surprised Sugar. Love works, in my experience it doesn't matter whether it's not coming from Dad, as long as it's coming from somewhere.
There is a void where there is no Dad. It may not be evident today, but it will be later. Mom is great, but discount Dad at your peril. Ask BW about it.
I don't discount Dad, I think a good father can be as invaluable as a good mother. However speaking from personal experience, it's not a must have. The right mindset will overcome bad parenting, or absent parents. Just as the wrong mindset will still manage to completely fuck up their life even with the benefit of two outstanding parents. I'm certainly not perfect, but I turned out okay, and both of mine sucked. Sometimes people become who they are because of how they were raised, and some become who they are in spite of it. I think it's something that is inherent in your personality that makes the difference. Just my theory. You know I had to look at the thread title to remember what thread I was in and why the subject of absent fathers even came up. This might be the most off track I've gotten in a thread?
